Could beleaguered US President Donald John Trump escape to Israel to be prime minister there, as he “joked”? Of course not. Let me clarify.
Unlike the US, Israel has a multi-party system. That means that he would have to create a coalition to be PM and keep his word. Unattainable.
He would need to learn to understand and speak Hebrew and listen to advise continuously that he would get from many sides. Not in the cards.
He would need to work with many different people. He couldn’t just fire everybody he gets an earful from. His US behavior would not go here.
He would need to be a loyal leader of a team of fraction leaders and not be their boss and be held to a coalition agreement. Doesn’t work for him.
He could be an Israeli mafia boss. There seem no other fitting job openings, besides tour guide. He could resettle in Israel and show visitors around at his mansions. He could be quite happy doing that.
He could claim that his garden is nicer than the Bahai’s, the border wall was actually his invention, the Western Temple Wall was built with his money and Israel’s economy is doing better than ever because of him.
He could promote Israeli gas (just now the world is phasing out fossil fuels, Israel finally struck black gold) and threaten Melania that if Arabs have four wives, he should also be allowed a fourth wife.
Someone should warn him, though, that one wrong move on taxes would land him in jail. Though, Israeli jails are actually nicer. And that would be well deserved for not letting Jonathan Pollard go.
