Trump’s Insane Appointment

While anti-Semitism in America has never been officially sanctioned by the American government as it had been in places like Poland and Hungary, it seems that the winds of freedom are turning into black clouds of hatred. The Charlottesville tragic episode was the beginning of America’s road to downfall.

It took the American president, Donald Trump, several days to condemn it, blaming both sides equally, and initially failing to cite the terrorism of the Ku Klux Klan, the White Supremacist racists and members of the Neo-Nazi party. His popularity has fallen dramatically and now he is regarded as America’s worst president since American independence in 1776.

In his newest political appointment, the president has nominated a notorious anti-Semite, 80-year-old Frederic Malek, to serve as the Chairman of the illustrious Woodrow Wilson International Center for Scholars, an important think-tank which is a part of America’s famous Smithsonian Institute.

Malek’s sordid history began in 1971 when he served as a special assistant to the disgraced President Richard Nixon. He was asked by Nixon to draw up a list of names of prominent Jewish officials who were working in the Bureau of Labor Statistics.

President Nixon believed that the Jews, most of them members of the Democratic party, were conspiring against him and he ordered Malek to purge as many of them as he could from their positions.

This sad period in American government policy has been referred to as “one of the most notorious anti-Semitic episodes in modern American history”.

In later years, Malek’s response was that “I was only following Nixon’s orders”. Where have we heard that excuse before? Read Hitler in place of Malek.  He was called the “Jew counter”, drawing up lists of Jewish-sounding names to be purged.

And now, following the tragedy at Charlottesville, President Trump in another moment of his insanity, has appointed this notorious Jew-hater to a highly respected scholarly post. It is an insane act by a man whose sanity is in question.

Should America convene a Nuremburg-like hearing to eradicate the racist KKK, White Supremacists and Neo-Nazis?

American citizens should not fall back on the constitutional guarantee of free speech. Hatred which leads to riots and deaths, must not be tolerated in the “land of the once free and the home of the less brave”.

Anti-Semitism is growing across the United States.  American Jews, like the German Jews in 1933, close their eyes to the events surrounding them with the same statement Germany’s Jews proclaimed following the immediate rise of the Nazi party….”Auch dies wird vorubergehen”… this too shall pass away.

But let not the American president’s insane act cause America’s Jews to pass away likewise. It may be time to welcome America’s Jews home to their ancestral homeland where only hatred of Jews for other Jews seems to be tolerated. Who knows? Maybe this too shall pass away. Halevai!!
