Trusting Terrorists Over Heroes: An Absurdity
In a recent and disturbing turn of events, we find ourselves grappling with a ludicrous situation where the testimony of a convicted terrorist is being weighed against the actions of our bravest soldiers. Attorneys Nati Rom and Adi Keidar of the Honenu legal organization have brought to light the harrowing experience of three soldiers who were detained for allegedly abusing an imprisoned Hamas terrorist. This scenario begs the question: why on earth are we giving credence to the claims of a terrorist, an individual who epitomizes deceit and malevolence?
Let’s break it down. Terrorists are the embodiment of evil—murderers, rapists, and tormentors who thrive on chaos and destruction. Their very existence is a testament to their willingness to engage in the most heinous acts imaginable. If they can commit such atrocities without a second thought, is it not logical to assume that lying, stealing, and deceit are merely par for the course for them? Why then, are we entertaining their version of events over those of our soldiers, who have dedicated their lives to defending our homeland?
The arrest of these soldiers by a masked police force, treating them as though they were the vilest of criminals, is a disgrace. These men have risked their lives, enduring conditions and challenges that most of us cannot even fathom, to protect our nation from its enemies. They have stood on the front lines, performing tasks that no one else would dare undertake, yet they are now being vilified without due process.
Attorney Rom eloquently criticized the Military Prosecutor’s Office for their heavy-handed approach. The truth could have been uncovered without resorting to the aggressive tactics employed by the Military Police. Instead, we have a scenario where our soldiers’ integrity is being called into question, their reputations tarnished, and their families subjected to unimaginable distress—all because of the unfounded accusations of a terrorist.
Attorney Keidar highlighted the absurdity of the situation, pointing out the disproportionate resources invested in substantiating the outlandish claims of a despicable individual. On the flip side, we have eight soldiers, regular people with families, whose lives have been upended. One of these soldiers is a bereaved son, arrested on the anniversary of his father’s murder—a poignant reminder of the personal sacrifices made by these heroes.
The soldiers’ version of events, as presented by Rom, paints a picture of duty and restraint. During a search, the terrorist attacked them, attempting to bite and disarm them. The soldiers responded with necessary force, ensuring their safety and maintaining order. This account starkly contrasts with the narrative pushed by the terrorist and his sympathizers—a narrative filled with misinformation and lies.
It is inconceivable that we are prioritizing the word of a terrorist over the accounts of our soldiers. These men have no criminal records; they are dedicated defenders of our nation, thrust into an impossible position where their actions, driven by the need to protect, are now being scrutinized and condemned.
The Military Advocate General and the judicial system must recognize the gravity of their actions and the message they are sending. Our soldiers, who have given so much for our safety, deserve our unwavering support and respect. To favor the narrative of a terrorist over that of our heroes is not only absurd—it is an insult to justice and the very principles upon which our nation stands. The day these soldiers are exonerated, we should all ask for their forgiveness for the injustices they have endured.
