For 2000+ days now, US comedy writers have had the luxury of roaring falsehoods pronounces by Trump. He has misspoken so often that one wonders where he finds time to eat and sleep. His mouth is not connected to truth as he knows it.
But after the November elections, US comedy writers don’t need to worry about enough copy, even if Biden wins. He mispronounces not less frequently. But from Sleepy Joe, we don’t hear lies (except about Israel). It will all be slips of the longue that will make us roar or stunned. His mouth is not connected to his brains.
I find daily American comedy shows most effective for learning and digesting the news. May I recommend my favorites?
In the times of BLM, more important than ever: The Daily Show with Trevor Noah.
Not less anti-racist: A Late Show with Stephen Colbert.
Also from his living room: Jimmy Kimmel Live.
And yet another one: Late Night with Seth Meyers.
And more: The Late Late Show with James Corden.
Making laughter a priority can be a most serious strategy.
Don’t get me wrong. It’s not that Right-wingers have no sense of humor. Rather, they have no higher principles. And if your only concern is more wealth and power, the news gives nothing to laugh about ever. When you amass more, you smile and when you fail, you grin. (And when you are Rightwing not for your own gain but because you don’t understand they’re fooling you, you just lack the info needed to laugh about the challenges in politics.) Laughter from frustration is only for true idealists.
