When did facts become politically incorrect?

You know what time of the year it is again? You guessed it, election time! You know what that means? Well for starters, it means that keyboard warriors take are taking to Facebook and fighting about which candidate is the best choice (or least worst in this case) to lead our country forward. Everything from healthcare to having the right to choose what bathroom you want to use is an intense debate between the two candidates and their supporters.

As is normal during the election cycle, the Democratic Party held its traditional party convention just a couple of months ago. This year was different, though. I watched the television in total shock and disgust as Palestinian flags were proudly flown inside the convention while Israeli flags burned right on the doorsteps of the convention, with cheering onlookers chanting “intifada, intifada, long live the intifada.” Apparently, videos and photographs of mutilated Jews blown up in suicide bombings are what some on the uber left want to start seeing again. It is amazing how they get away with calling the Republicans warmongers!

Now, I do not believe that this intense loathing of Israel on the left has anything to do with anti-Semitism. Rather, it is a symptom of a new trend in American liberals to overlook facts and automatically sympathize with the underdog in a situation. It is not a mentality that is exclusive towards Israel. Whether it be ignoring vital FBI statistics on police shootings of black Americans, or wanting to throw their doors open to Syrians who the FBI itself has warned it cannot vet properly, the Liberal wing of America has shown itself to be uninterested in facts unless it supports their often baseless political stances. So to be honest, who can be surprised when according to the Pew Research Center, the majority of the Liberals in America sympathize with the Palestinian cause. It has nothing to do with leftist Jew hatred, only another tragic example of the left once again, ignoring essential facts and sympathizing with the underdog, regardless of how sinister the goals of the underdog are.

Maybe some bleeding heart millennial reading this can explain to me how terrorists who launch rockets at innocent civilians while hiding behind their own people are morally equal to Israeli pilots who, despite their valiant efforts to avoid harming Palestinian civilians, inevitably end up killing some when targeting these rocket launching sites. How is Israel defending itself against a terrorist organization hell bent on butchering every single Jew living in Israel morally unjust?

The basics of this conflict are so simple that a 6-year-old can understand it. It falls under a category called “cause and effect.” Believe me; Israel has much better things to do with its time and money than spend millions of dollars a day dropping bombs on Palestinian children. Surely, there has to be SOME cause that is making them carry out airstrikes in densely populated areas. Lone behold, there is one! The cause is that Hamas fires rockets at Israeli schools from positions inside densely populated neighborhoods, and, unsurprisingly, the effect of that is that the Israelis retaliate to destroy these rocket launching sites. Isn’t it amazing how much you can find out about a conflict when you put it in a context as simple as “cause and effect?”

Unfortunately, this blatant neglect of the details and facts is not limited to Bernie loving millennials. There is a surprisingly large number of rather spectacular examples of some leftist politicians expressing little regard for the realities of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. Do not believe me? Fear not! There are plenty of examples of this, but for the sake of not boring you to death, I just listed a couple.

Exhibit A: Congresswoman Betty McCollum, who is a Democrat from Minnesota. Only a couple of months ago, she accused Israel of abusing Palestinian children in prison and committing other human rights violations against Palestinian minors. First off, she offered absolutely no evidence or any indication as to where she was getting her information from, leading me to believe that she likely pulled them out of thin air (it would not be the first time she has done that).

Secondly, if children were what she was concerned about, I am surprised how silent she has been on Iran being a world leader in child executions, or how children are forcibly drafted to fight for the Sudanese army. I guess human rights laws only apply when they are politically convenient to her.

Exhibit B: Congressman Hank Johnson from Georgia, a man who just a matter of days after suggesting that the Pacific Island of Guam would tip over from America’s military presence there, called Jews living in Judea and Samaria “termites.” I guess he not only failed his earth science test on geology but also bombed his Middle Eastern history exam. I guess we should not be expecting very much intelligence coming out of his office anytime soon.

The left wing of America today is not the same movement that it was 20 years ago. It has fundamentally evolved into an entirely different movement that is not concerned with facts regarding Israel. It is time for moderate Democrats to disavow these radical members of their party and publicly come out against their hateful and baseless ideology. If they fail to do so, this movement will only grow in the party like cancer; spreading more and more until eventually it becomes too late to stop it.
