When freedom of speech becomes self-destructing

I am (“V” – a sort of social conservative) deeply troubled by the conversation I had with my friend (“M” – a sort of social liberal) who is a man of reason deeply concerned with the state of political/social discord in America.

V: I have not seen such public discord in America, which resembles a civil war, in my forty-year life here.

M: I was born in this country a little bit over 40 years ago and I agree with you – after Donald J. Trump was elected the US President the level of discord reached the level of something really close to a civil war – we who lost the election hate him.

V: Why do you hate him?

M: He is lying, and he is lying about everything.

V: Could you please describe one of his most devious lies to let you and me reason on whether that is a true lie or just a misunderstanding?

M: No, I cannot because it is almost impossible to separate one lie from other lies – it is one big lie of his presidency, and we need to get rid of him now.

V: Okay, why now? Why you cannot wait until the next election and then democratically replace him by somebody else of your liking?

M: That is impossible – the level of hate is so high that his foes cannot wait – his foes are working hard to resist him, to prevent him from getting any achievements in domestic and foreign affairs that would secure getting rid of him now or in the next election.

V. No doubt you realize this resistance seriously damages the entire country.

M: Yes, but the level of hate and the urge to get rid of him are so high that there is no other way for us – that is why we are now practicing the civil disobedience as permitted by our Constitution and the Freedom of Speech.

Freedom of Speech is the right, guaranteed by the First Amendment to the U.S. Constitution, to express beliefs and ideas without unwarranted government restriction.
The Framers of the Constitution guaranteed freedom of speech and expression to the citizens of the United States with the First Amendment, which reads, in part, “Congress shall make no law … abridging the freedom of speech.”

Almost since the adoption of the Bill of Rights, however, the judiciary has struggled to define speech and expression and the extent to which freedom of speech should be protected.
Why not the freedom of speech with no restrictions, why we must have the boundaries behind which we should not tolerate it?

It is so because in any nation, and the USA is no exception, there are spiritual/social minorities which are spiritually/socially incompatible with the majority and therefore are trying to weaken the existing spiritual/social order and replace it by a new one which is incompatible with the majority’s moral values.

All modern dictatorships were established by murdering the democracies using the freedom of speech given to then by the murdered democracies – of course, after the victory the dictatorships restrict the freedom of speech to the freedom of my-speech only.

In the late 1917, the Russian Bolsheviks murdered the new-born Russian democracy with the help of the freedom of speech. In the 1920-1930, the Nazis had done the same in Germany.

There are some warning signs in the USA that the freedom of speech is approaching the line after which the freedom of speech is becoming self-destructing, and my conversation in the above with a friend of mine is one of those warning signs.

The Israelis should be aware – it might happen here in Israel since many Jews in Israel, like many Jews in America, are using the Freedom of Speech in a destructive way.
