When Will We Stop Khamenei and the Islamic Republic’s 45-Year Killing Spree?
As much as the evils of Hamas have had a devastating impact on Israel, the January massacre of over 36,000 Iranian protestors compels us to focus on the head of the snake – the real killing machine – the Islamic Republic of Iran.
The Body Count of a Brutal Theocracy. The world has watched passively for a half-century as a regime born in blood has sustained itself through the systematic export of terror. Their staggering death toll across the Middle East and the world started with the 1979-82 Revolution Purges and the execution of 10,000 in the opposition. Then came the 1988 prison massacres where up to 30,000 Iranian political prisoners were hanged in silence. It flowed through the blood-soaked sands of the eight-year Iran-Iraq war where a million Muslims were killed, and into Syria, where Tehran spent a staggering $15 billion annually from 2014-2022 to keep the Syrian dictator Assad on his throne atop a mountain of half a million corpses.
Iran’s Occupation of the Middle East. For decades, Iran financed a terror network which created a “Ring of Fire” around Israel with Hamas in Gaza, Hezbollah in Lebanon, Palestinian Islamic Jihad in Judea and Samaria (the West Bank), the Assad Regime in Syria, and the Houthis in Yemen – through a sophisticated network of oil smuggling, money laundering and crypto transfers to its terrorist proxies. Annually, $16 billion has been diverted for nuclear weapons, missiles, rockets, tunnels, terrorist equipment, mercenary salaries, oil shipments and credit lines for terrorism to the significant detriment of the Iranian people,
The Islamic Republic’s Terror is Personal. I remember President Carter’s feeble, failed attempt in 1979 to free our 50 American embassy officials held hostage for 444 days, and Iran’s 1983 Beirut Barracks bombing killing 283 of our American servicemen. I remember the 1992 and 1994 Iranian bombings in Buenos Aires of the Israeli Embassy and AMIA Jewish Community Center killing 114 citizens and injuring 500. I was in a Jerusalem bomb shelter on October 7, 2023 as Iran’s proxy Hamas slaughtered 1200 Israelis and captured 250 hostages, and on October 8th in my Zefat residence in Northern Israel as Iran’s proxy Hezbollah began its daily rocket barrage from Lebanon that displaced 100,000 Israelis for two years. I watched the early morning skies of Zefat on April 14, 2024 as Khamenei directly targeted Israeli citizens with more than 300 Iranian ballistic and cruise missiles, and drones.
And its Impact is Global. The world economy has been affected by Iran’s two-year shipping blockades in the Red Sea and the Persian Gulf. Iran is now testing Intercontinental Ballistic Missiles (ICBMs) capable of reaching Europe and potentially the U.S. mainland. These actions emanate from a terrorist regime 1,112 miles from Israel and 6,222 miles from our nation’s capital.
The “Ring of Fire” Extinguished. Israel’s extraordinary military achievements of the last two years, with America’s leadership and support, have exposed the hollowness of the regime in Iran. Hamas and Hezbollah are defanged, the Assad regime collapsed, and the 12-Day Iran War obliterated Iranian air defenses and, with America’s Air Force, much of its nuclear weapons capacity.
The Final Atrocity. Now, cornered and desperate, Khamenei and his private Iran Revolutionary Guard has turned its firepower on its own children. The Iran International opposition network reported 36,000 Iranians killed on January 8-9, the “bloodiest massacre of civilians during street protests, over a two-day period, in history.” A nation of 93 million courageous and defenseless Iranian people with no internet access are cut off from eachother and the world as the killing continues.
A Call to Conscience. For too long, the UN has passed resolutions against Israel and Western democracies while ignoring the butchers in Tehran. A massive Qatari-funded global disinformation campaign has changed the narrative to blame Israel, destabilized America and the West, and softened the reality of Iranian terrorism. But the time for equivocation is over. The “Killing Spree” that began in 1979 is reaching its violent crescendo.
We must stand with the people of Iran, or history will remember us as accomplices to their slaughter. If the World follows Israel and America’s courageous leadership, then Khamenei and the Islamic Republic falls, along with Hamas, Hezbollah and the Houthis. Only then will a viable path to peace and prosperity for all in the Middle East emerge.
