As we close another year,

we do some wishing.

Wishing our blood and veins

reaching for “the other” with no fear.

Wishing a torch to light the dark

so that we can finally see the way.

Wishing a tranquil and safe rhyme,

even though we know it might not be.

Wishing our dear existence to cease

the constant conflicts we can’t escape.

Wishing a possibility of resurgence

of love, reason and quiet spirit.

Wishing “bring them home”,

and bring justice and hope for All.

Wishing our next unbalanced steps

can find the way within the pain.

Wishing our smiles can be richer

in surfing currents of distant hugs.

Wishing change when needs to be

as well as steadiness where is required.

Wishing a fresh beginning in this sudden present

of new pasts and waves of to-be futures.

About the Author

Luca M Damiani is an Artist, Author and University Fellow, focusing his ongoing creative practice and research on disability, neuroscience, technology and nature. His work also crosses over with human rights and social design. Luca has a neurological disability (52% impairment of central nervous system function) and has had various visual art books and academic articles published, as well as being exhibited internationally. Luca has worked and collaborated with institutions such as BMJ Medical Humanities, Mozilla, Amnesty International, BBC, Science Gallery, Computer Arts Society, Disney, University of the Arts London, Yale University, Jewish Book Council, TATE, V&A and more.
