Don’t paralyze yourself from fear, but also, don’t ignore the unspeakable
Nuclear fallout in Ukraine or elsewhere in Europe, could it happen? For sure, it could. From Russian carelessness vis-à-vis Chernobyl or the many Ukrainian nuclear reactors, or from spite while they withdraw, or from a nuke fired at the Ukraine or NATO-territory in error or malice.
Only racists think it can happen to Japanese cities but not to Caucasians.
Just like thinking that those without a Western background must be too stupid to block the Internet, launch a cyber-attack, or commit 9/11.
We’re also supposed to be mature enough not to reason that, as long as we don’t mention it, it can’t happen. And if we would, it’s tempting fate (in Dutch: the gods, in modern Hebrew: opening the mouth of the Satan).
Psychologists call that pre-intelligent magical thinking; as if covering your face and ignoring the oncoming train can prevent it from hitting you.
Maybe it’s high time the West asks Japan what to do, just in case.
Facing that possibility might also wake up the West that Iran really could nuke Israel, if not stopped. And being nice to them only encourages them.

BTW: US President Biden was right on target (pardon the pun): Russia’s Putin cannot stay in power. The White House cowardly walked back that the US was not looking for a regime change in Russia, but he was still right. And, it all doesn’t matter much as Putin should be tried for war crimes. The conviction most probably will motivate him to take his life. It would have been better if he would have done that before he killed all the others.
BTW 2: I disagree that the sanctions can be lifted when Russia has left Ukraine. First, paying for damages and money for the people they killed.

Like most of his readers, he believes in being friendly, respectful, and loyal. However, if you think those are his absolute top priorities, you might end up disappointed. His first loyalty is to the truth. He agrees that in a post-truth world, that's irrelevant, but then this is for the record. He will try to stay within the limits of democratic and Jewish law, but he won't lie to support opinions or people when don't deserve that. (Yet, we all make honest mistakes, which is just fine and does not justify losing support.) Chronologically, his most influential teachers are his parents, Nico (natan) van Zuiden and Betty (beisye) Nieweg, Wim Kan, Mozart, Harvey Jackins, Marshal Rosenberg, Reb Shlomo Carlebach, and, lehavdil bein chayim lechayim, Rabbi Dr. Natan Lopes Cardozo, Rav Zev Leff, and Rav Meir Lubin. This short list doesn't mean to disrespect others who taught him a lot or a little. One of his rabbis calls him Mr. Innovation [Ish haChidushim]. Yet, his originalities seem to root deeply in traditional Judaism, though they may grow in unexpected directions. In fact, he claims he's modernizing nothing. Rather, mainly basing himself on the basic Hebrew Torah text, he tries to rediscover classical Jewish thought almost lost in thousands of years of stifling Gentile domination and Jewish assimilation. (He pleads for a close reading of the Torah instead of going by rough assumptions of what it would probably mean and before fleeing to Commentaries.) This, in all aspects of life, but prominently in the areas of Free Will, Activism, Homosexuality for men, and Redemption. *
