75 years ago, the Lubavitcher Rebbe accepted leadership

His father-in-law passed away 76 years ago. Chassidim implored the son-in-law to become Rebbe, but he refused. Finally, a year after his father-in-law’s passing, on the tenth day of the Hebrew month Shvat, he agreed.

His leadership changed the world. And now, seventy-five years later, we are living in a world where the Jewish people are increasingly strengthening their connection to Torah, and where Israel is strong, wondrously defeating its enemies. Jews are illuminating the world, teaching nations true morality.

When I was a child, I spent many summers at Camp Gan Israel, which was established by the Rebbe and his Chassidim. Camp imbued me with warmth and joy, and a love for Judaism.

Later I studied at Chabad Yeshivas, where I experienced the revealed and mystical dimensions of Torah. It enabled me to understand who I was, and how I could brighten the world.

I spent time talking to many Jews, giving them a chance to do a Mitzvah like putting on Tefillin or lighting a candle before Shabbat.

And I talked to non-Jews, explaining how they could live meaningful lives by adhering to the seven Noahide laws that G-d told Moses, at Mount Sinai, to tell all nations. This will bring peace to the world.

In other words, the Rebbe and his Chassidim taught me to care. And they showed me how we can do the impossible, overcome challenges, and prepare the world for Redemption with Moshiach.

It’s been 75 years since the Rebbe accepted leadership. He led a revolution to create a beautiful world, filled with kindness, purpose, and a strong awareness of G-d’s presence.

Now, as we witness amazing miracles, we become optimistic that the complete Redemption with Moshiach is very close.

Now, 75 years after the Rebbe’s ongoing influential leadership, we can think about and appreciate his wondrous contribution, benefiting all humanity.

It’s been 75 years. The miracles continue on. The world increasingly shines.

As a friend once told me, we have a great Rebbe.
