A Candle Burns – Yom Hazikaron

A CANDLE BURNS

a candle burns

through the night

and day

as I write

thinking of you …

battlefields

your deaths

a nation

weeping

flowers, fresh in clusters

on your graves

the siren

and the silence

and the stillness …

a candle burns

the flame straight

and strong

as you were

as you want me

to be
