A potted history of the future Gaza (G-d forbid)
February 2026: Some token Hamas leaders depart Gaza after “handing over” power to the new “technocratic government” in a glitzy ceremony before onward travel to luxury villas awaiting them somewhere in the Gulf.
March 2026: Hamas, along with select other factions, carry out a “disarmament” with a “verification” process overseen by Qatar and Turkey, subsequently endorsed by the Board of Peace, and some time later, the United Nations.
March 2026: Under concerted US pressure, Israel fully withdraws from Gaza. The “International Stabilisation Force” (ISF) enters. The return of the last hostage, Ran Gvili, of blessed memory, is promised “soon”.
September 2026: After necessary plans have been drawn up, Gaza reconstruction commences. Construction is led by Turkish contractors under Qatari oversight. This includes several “big beautiful buildings”, as presented by Jared Kushner at Davos. Quite a few of these buildings have Trump naming rights attached to them.
September 2026: Hamas arranges that the required tunnels, bunkers, weapon factories, launch sites, safe houses, armories and the rest of it are embedded into the new buildings. In particular those with Trump naming rights. This follows Hamas’ key operating principle – the more strategic the military installation, the more sensitive the civilian infrastructure into which it is embedded.
Just to be sure, neighbourhood-level Hamas enforcers are on hand to ensure there is no obstruction from well-meaning locals or the less ideologically-aligned members of the “technocratic government”. They also ensure that pesky foreign journalists, aid workers and ISF “verifiers” are kept away from getting too close to the sensitive areas.
September 2026: Israel has already identified some of the newly developing Hamas military installations and raise objections. It presents evidence of the same. This is duly ignored. The US criticizes Israel’s “intransigence” and expresses “alarm” at the risk of stalling “momentum” amid “the best progress towards making peace there’s ever been in the last 3,000 years of Middle East history.”
January 2027: Hamas, along with PIJ and other factions working with Hamas, activate its installations. Rockets once again are fired at Israeli civilians (G-d forbid), among other terrorist shenanigans. Hamas claim it is not them, but rather “renegade factions”. The US restrains Israel from responding as the US commits to handling these “renegade factions” together with the “technocratic government” and ISF partners.
February to June 2027: Rocket fire from Gaza at Israeli civilians increases (G-d forbid). Ashkelon comes under attack. Then Ashdod. Then Beersheva. Then Tel Aviv. Then Jerusalem. Global media quickly ceases to report the rocket fire. Rather, all eyes are on the “big beautiful buildings” going up in Gaza. The US insists that the “renegade factions” are being handled and claims “significant successes”, notwithstanding the increased daily rocket fire.
July 2027: The Prime Minister of Israel instructs the IDF to respond to the rocket fire with pinpoint attacks that precision-target Hamas rocket launch sites. Israel, as usual, issues multiple evacuation warnings before it strikes. Hamas, as usual, impedes civilian evacuation. For good measure, Hamas forces additional women and children into the targeted locations.
Some civilian casualties, G-d forbid, unavoidably and tragically result. Some of the “big beautiful buildings” are damaged. Al-Jazeera immediately broadcasts gruesome images.
The “technocratic government” (under instruction from Hamas) announces within three minutes of the strike, 1,346 civilian casualties, all of them women and children. The BBC’s Jeremy Bowen confirms exactly this number of casualties live on air soon afterwards.
Israel, after waiting until long after the news cycle has passed before making its announcement, estimates only seven casualties – five of them terrorists, and two of them civilians forced into the area by Hamas. This is backed by video evidence of the rocket launches and the terrorists in the vicinity who were subsequently eliminated. All of this is duly ignored.
The day afterwards, the BBC releases a documentary “proving” that Israel deliberately targeted the “big beautiful buildings”.
