Abraham’s Army
Suddenly a soldier
When just a moment ago, a father
At his computer; a commuter
To Tel Aviv…
Now working at a screen is a luxury;
a tea-time dainty compared
To this dusty deathly
Saintly
Descent into battle.
In creep the questions…
What do they eat, where do they sleep
when they are out there defending you and me?
Clothed in tanks and rubble.
What noble green fatigues.
To suddenly be a soldier
To shoulder
The burden
To hold the border
To cross over
Like our forefather
Abraham crossed over.
He too battled
4 fronts, 4 kings.
Did you know this Torah code…
That in the year 2023 from creation
There was a war with 4 kings
That Abraham waged
To save
His nephew, the captive
He too was 75
just like our ancient/modern nation,
Fighting to free the hostages
Struggling to survive.
“The deeds of the fathers
are a sign for the sons.”
Abraham, the ancient
Now dressed up in fatigues.
His history is our destiny.
May our deeds repeat
his deeds.
