Alleviating a Child’s Fear

Childhood is supposed to be a happy and secure place of learning, growing, and just getting to be a kid. But in today’s charged world of instant media access and information overload, it has become almost impossible to shield our children and keep the bubble of their stable space intact. As the world changes at a rapid pace, we need to evolve with it, educating parents about how to establish a new balance for their kids’ wellbeing.

Menashe’s* parents reached out to Amudim after a friend who had used our services recommended they call. A once happy and easy going 9 year-old who loved school was suddenly refusing to leave the house, and nothing his parents said or did could get him to go.

Our case manager immediately suggested getting Menashe connected with a good therapist who would help get to the root of an issue that doesn’t suddenly arise with no reason. We were able to refer the family to someone local and who accepted their insurance, and Menashe’s parents scheduled his first session.

Within the first thirty minutes of speaking with Menashe, his therapist discovered the source of the challenge; Menashe had been experiencing severe anxiety after hearing about some of the recent news events related to attacks both in New York and Israel. He was literally scared for his safety and did not want to leave the safe space of his home.

Our case manager, Menashe’s parents and the therapist worked together to create a plan of talking points to reassure Menashe, and to help him develop daily coping skills to manage his anxiety and prevent it from impeding his living a full and happy life.

Several months later, Menashe is still in therapy and doing much better; he is back at school, enjoying his classes and friends, going through each day with the renewed joy and peace of mind that every child should feel.

If you or someone you know is struggling, please don’t hesitate to reach out. Amudim is just a phone call away and ready to help.
