American Jews Strongly Support Kamala Harris, and it is no mystery why

A recent poll showed that some 75% of American Jews support Kamala Harris in her bid for the Presidency, and it is easy to understand just why this is the case.

First off, Ms. Harris has been a consistent fighter against antisemitism. As a District Attorney in San Francisco, and as California Attorney General, Ms. Harris made fighting antisemitism and all hate crimes a priority. She continued her efforts as an opponent of all types of hate crimes upon taking office as a US Senator, and was particularly focused in efforts to protect Jewish communities across the state and across the nation. Upon taking office as Vice President of the United States, Ms. Harris consistently spoke out against antisemitism, be it the infamous march of Neo Nazis in Charlottesville, Virginia, or the attacks by gunmen at a synagogue in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania or Poway, California. And now, as the Democratic Party candidate for President of the United States, she has personally made it a point to pledge to be a champion in the fight against hate, while her political party’s platform contains language firmly committing the party to protect the Jewish Community against antisemitism.

Kamala Harris has also been a strong supporter of Israel throughout her career, and especially upon assuming office as the Vice President. She has advocated for continued military and economic support for Israel, the only democracy in the Middle East, and has pushed back against those whose chants of “From the River to the Sea” are reminiscent of the worst types of antisemitism we have seen throughout history. Moreover, she has clearly pledged her continued support for Israel should she be elected President, while also advocating for a two-state solution to the Middle East conflict, a solution that would see the creation of a Palestinian state side by side a Jewish state, bringing an end to a 76+ year old conflict. She has also made it clear that the United States under her leadership will not shrink from confronting Iran, the nation that has funded these terrorist organizations that seek to destroy Israel. In these ways, Kamala Harris as President will allow Israel will be able to live in peace with its neighbors.

Contrast this, if you will, with her opponent. Donald Trump has invited leading Neo-Nazis to dine at his golf course in Bedminster, New Jersey. Donald Trump refused to criticize the Neo-Nazis whose hate filled demonstration in Charlottesville led to the death of a young woman. And he regularly cites antisemitic tropes in his postings on social media, in his speeches, and in his interviews with his favorite news personalities. Indeed, he recently gave a lengthy “exclusive” interview with Tucker Carlson, perhaps the leading Holocaust denier of our modern times.

It is easy to understand just why the vast majority of American Jews support Kamala Harris and her bid for the White House. They see her as a ally, committed to fighting antisemitism and to supporting Israel. They know that she is someone they can count on.
