Bastian Baker, the Swiss singer-songwriter, first caught the attention of many Israeli listeners during the Eurovision Song Contest in 2019. Back then, he visited Tel Aviv alongside his sister Maryne, who had penned a song for Switzerland’s representative in the contest. Fast forward three years, and Baker’s star has only continued to rise on the international scene. This year, in a remarkable performance, Bastian Baker shared the stage with American rock ‘n’ roll legend Chris Isaak at the Montreux Jazz Festival 2023. The much-anticipated concert took place in July, leaving the audience awestruck. I was fortunate enough to witness this extraordinary event, where two stars of the evening shone brightly.

Chris Isaak, often hailed as the successor to the great Elvis Presley, lived up to his reputation. With a spectacular appearance reminiscent of the ’50s, an enchanting voice, and a repertoire of nostalgia-inducing hits, he transported us back to the golden era of rock and roll. The Swiss Riviera setting added a unique charm to the already magical show.

In contrast, Bastian Baker was a breath of fresh air with his originality. His romantic songs and mesmerizing piano playing exuded sensuality and undeniable talent. Ever since his time in Tel Aviv in 2019, where he expressed his willingness to represent his country in the Eurovision competition, his popularity has soared, and it seems inevitable that he will soon grace the Eurovision stage as Switzerland’s representative.

For Chris Isaak, the Montreux Jazz Festival was a special event, marking his return to French stages after several years. The audience warmly welcomed him with a thunderous ovation, acknowledging his legendary status in the music industry. The Montreux Jazz Festival has a tradition of bringing together performers from different generations, creating unforgettable shows where talents complement each other.

As a witness to this remarkable concert, I eagerly await two things: the day when Bastian Baker fulfills his dream of representing Switzerland at Eurovision, and the return of the Eurovision Song Contest to Israel. With such incredible talents gracing the stage, the world eagerly anticipates more unforgettable musical moments.
