Bibi: Give Us More Guns & an Alliance Against Iran

I couldn’t say if I was more embarrassed or amazed by PM Bibi Netanyahu’s long, defiant, applause laden speech to the US Congress. In the end, the money line echoed Ukraine President Zelensky’s frequent request, ‘give us more guns to fight with.’

Yet, as he was speaking inside, outside the Capitol the now routine anti-Israel demonstration was taking place. Of its participants Bibi said ‘they should be ashamed,’ labelling them ‘useful idiots.’ He, however, didn’t say that about the massive demonstrations against his regime in Israel. In fact, listen to him talk all the country is behind him.

But, he never said he was ashamed at allowing Hamas to build a tunnel network the size of the New York subway system under his nose or to ignore advance warnings of the Oct. 7th attack. In fact he never expressed his sorrow for anything he has done that enabled Hamas.

No, throughout the talk it was Bibi’s now standard PR statement of Israel’s desire for peace and stability in the region, once again pointing the finger as Iran over its desire to develop nukes, an issue itself where politicians on all sides refuse to contemplate the obvious…Iran doesn’t have to build a bomb, it has the oil money to pay cash strapped North Korea for a couple.

Netanyahu’s “vision” for the Middle East – and for Israel’s relations with its Arab neighbors was his frequent line. For years, he has tried to push normalization with countries like Saudi Arabia as a step toward bringing about an end to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. He called for an alliance with the US and other nations to counter the Iranian threat.

He thanked President Biden for supporting Israel and former President, now convicted felon, Donald Tump for the Abraham Accords and moving the US embassy to Jerusalem.

It was also a vanity tour aimed at Netanyahu’s shrinking base in Israel. Polls show most Israelis would like him gone. They blame him for the war and the lack of movement on the hostages. Of the hostages, Netanyahu boasted the war would go on until they will all be released.

Sadly, it’s becoming more frequent to have reports of dead hostages coming from Hamas meaning fewer to be released alive.

The most uplifting part of his speech was making note to repeated applause of a few multi cultural IDF troops in the audience. This illustrated that Israel isn’t just a refuge for European Jews. There were also a few hostage families present who also received applause.
