Blue and Yellow at the Western Wall: Massive Prayer for Ukraine Held in Jerusalem

In a powerful display of spiritual and political solidarity, a massive 30-meter Ukrainian flag was unfurled on Feb. 22 at the foot of the Western Wall in Jerusalem, one of the holiest sites in the Jewish world.

The event, which brought together Ukrainian diplomats, members of the Israeli Jewish community, and tireless supporters of Ukraine’s struggle for survival, was centered around a singular plea: a “true and just peace” for a nation entering its fourth year of full-scale resistance against Russian aggression.

A symbol of shared suffering and survival

The Western Wall (Kotel) has stood for millennia as a monument to national tragedy, exile, and the unyielding hope for redemption. There was no more fitting backdrop to pray for Ukraine’s victory and the restoration of its sovereignty.

“The Western Wall has seen many prayers over thousands of years,” wrote the Chief Rabbi of Ukraine, Moshe Reuven Azman,  a figure widely respected as a bridge between the two nations and a vocal patriot of both his Jewish heritage and his Ukrainian homeland. “But on Feb. 22, a very special prayer was heard there – a prayer for a true and just peace for Ukraine!”

The Chief Rabbi, who shared  images of the yellow-and-blue banner set against the ancient stones, emphasized the collective power of the moment: “When so many people pray together, it always has great power!”

The relationship between Jerusalem and Kyiv remains unbreakable. As the 30-meter flag billowed near the ancient limestone blocks, the message was clear: Ukraine’s fight is not a local territorial dispute, but a global struggle for dignity that resonates from the trenches of the Donbas to the heart of the Holy City.
