Cut Iran’s military aid to proxy militias

Recently, Congress defeated an amendment to cut military aid to Israel.
This amendment was defeated because it was unbalanced. The amendment was unbalanced because it did not contain a verifiable commitment by Iran to cut military aid to Hamas, Hezbollah, and other anti-Israel proxy militias across the Middle East. A balanced amendment would impose sanctions on Iran for continuing to give military support to its proxy militias.
Hamas, which governs much of Gaza, does not deserve to be granted immunity by other nations for massacring and abducting Israeli civilians on October 7, 2023.
Nor does Hezbollah, entrenched in southern Lebanon, deserve immunity for shooting missiles into the homes of residents of northern Israel. Members of Iran’s proxy militias dress in civilian clothes to conceal their martial function. They often operate inside schools, hospitals, mosques, and government, commercial, and residential buildings.
By embedding their personnel, weapons, and facilities in civilian communities, the proxy militias require the Israeli Defense Forces fighting the militias to make every effort to minimize civilian casualties. Before striking a proxy militia, the Israeli troops warn people in the area to evacuate. Of course, this warning allows militia members to evacuate also.
