Deep Sixth

Daniel 6 was what Greg Jacobs, counsel to Vice President Mike Pence,
recalled when rioters attacked the US Capitol on January the sixth.
Comparing Daniel’s response to his confinement in a lions’ den makes far more sense than the one that Donald demonstrated, while deserving to be deep-sixed, deeply sickth.

For how to behave in crises like these there is of course no manual;
what’s seriously mislabeled as “United States” for this has got no precedent.
What’s saddest about what happened is that there appears to be no Daniel
who’s fit to occupy the den that is the Oval Office of the President.

Peggy Noonan reported in the 6/30/22 WSJ that Greg Jacobs, counsel to Vice President Mike Pence, testified to Congress that he was reading Daniel 6 to calm himself on January 6th, 2021, when supporters of President Donald Trump were storming the United States Capitol. She wrote:

For Greg Jacobs, counsel to Mike Pence who was with the vice president in an undisclosed location on Jan. 6, it was the lion’s den: “Daniel 6 was where I went.”
