Does Israel’s Fight Matter to Americans?

America's saftey and progress is in part thanks to its allies such as Israel

Americans are often indifferent to what is happening in the Middle East. It’s understandable—our country is vast, and with a constant flow of political and social news through social media and the 24-hour news cycle, the average American’s attention is divided. While we may not always be aware of the latest developments in Israel, it’s crucial to recognize that what happens there profoundly impacts the entire Western world, including the United States.

Over the past year, Israel has made historic strides, from eliminating top terrorist leaders to achieving breakthroughs in science and medicine. These achievements aren’t just victories for Israel—they are victories for Western democracy and global security. Just this past week, a team of Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) soldiers took out Yahya Sinwar, the leader of Hamas in Gaza. Sinwar joins a growing list of extremist leaders neutralized by Israel, and every one of these actions contributes to the safety of Americans. Israel’s efforts directly combat terrorist organizations like Hamas, which openly call for the destruction of Israel and its allies, including the United States. While we enjoy our freedoms, the IDF is on the front lines, eliminating threats that seek to dismantle Western ideals of democracy and liberty.

This isn’t just about security; it’s about shared values and advancements that benefit us all. Israel has long been a global leader in science and medicine, pushing the boundaries of innovation. From pioneering cancer treatments to creating life-saving technologies like the Iron Dome missile defense system, Israel consistently develops solutions to some of the world’s most pressing challenges. Breakthroughs like drip irrigation, which helps address global food security, and the PillCam, a non-invasive diagnostic device, are examples of Israeli ingenuity that improve lives globally.

Americans should care about these contributions because they align with our own values of innovation, progress, and the pursuit of life-saving technologies. In areas like healthcare, agriculture, and defense, Israel’s advancements are directly relevant to the challenges we face here at home. By embracing these contributions, the United States can further strengthen its own leadership in scientific and medical innovation, ensuring that both nations remain at the forefront of global progress.

These achievements are constantly under threat by extremist organizations like Hamas. Israel’s ability to foster innovation and secure the region is imperiled when groups like Hamas persist in their attempts to destabilize the region and attack Israeli civilians and its allies. It’s important to recognize that Israel is not only fighting for its survival but also working to maintain the safety of its allies, including the U.S.

Americans should be paying attention to what is happening in Israel, not just out of concern for security but because of the profound contributions Israel makes to global progress and innovation. Israel’s efforts in both security and science are not isolated achievements but part of a broader commitment to protecting and advancing the values we hold dear—freedom, innovation, and human dignity.
