FBI & DoJ: Trump Lied
To no one’s surprise there’s more proof that Donald Trump was lying when he accused Barack Obama of tapping his phones at Trump Tower during last year’s campaign. And it came directly from Jeff Sessions’ Justice Department in a federal court filing Friday.
It was obviously a lie from the outset because Trump refused (because he couldn’t) produce any proof of any tap (which, of course, he misspelled), and instead of having his own FBI investigate the charge, he said the Congress should look into it.
Congress did and its congressional investigators quickly concluded it was just more fake news from the White House.
In reality it was a diversion to draw attention away from the president’s self-inflicted crisis du jour and the Russia investigations, and it was another opportunity to smear Obama, something Trump been doing steadily since the 2008 election with his racist birther attacks.
“Both FBI and NSD confirm that they have no records related to wiretaps as described by the March 4, 2017 tweets,” the government said, referring to the Justice Department’s National Security Division.
“Terrible! Just found out that Obama had my ‘wires tapped’ in Trump Tower just before the victory. Nothing found. This is McCarthyism!” Trump tweeted. “How low has President Obama gone to tapp my phones during the very sacred election process. This is Nixon/Watergate. Bad (or sick) guy!” Trump added.
The DoJ statement was in response to a lawsuit by the watchdog group American Oversight. The head of that group said the FBI and Justice “confirmed in writing that President Trump lied.”
The White House shrugged off the DoJ report, saying, “This is not news.” It seems that Trump is the real “Bad (or sick)guy!”
