By 2030, Brazil will have more people aged 60 and over than children and adolescents up to 14 years old, according to IBGE projections. The rapid aging of the population brings new challenges to society and reinforces the need to expand discussions on public policies, health, autonomy, and the protection of rights for older adults.

It is in this context that the Jewish Federation of the State of São Paulo (Fisesp) will hold, on August 19, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., the 19th edition of the Aging Seminar, with the theme “Aging in the 21st Century – Rights and Care”, at Unibes Cultural (Rua Oscar Freire, 2500 – São Paulo). The event is sponsored by Hospital Israelita Albert Einstein and has institutional support from Congregação Israelita Paulista (CIP), Unibes, and Unibes Cultural.

The official opening will take place at 9:30 a.m., with the presence of Fisesp president Celia Parnes. During the ceremony, a tribute will also be paid to an outstanding older adult.

With the goal of promoting training, updates, and integration among professionals, volunteers, and those interested in aging, the seminar seeks to contribute to the continuous improvement of services for older adults—a segment that is growing rapidly in Brazil and worldwide. The meeting will bring together specialists from different fields to discuss the challenges and opportunities of an increasingly long-lived society, addressing topics related to health, autonomy, inclusion, rights, and quality of life.

Among the highlights of the program are lectures on active longevity, quality of life, and holistic health in aging, delivered by specialists from Hospital Israelita Albert Einstein. The event will also feature debates on innovation in care, beginning with the screening of the documentary “The Way Each Person Ages”, followed by a roundtable with gerontology experts. Discussions will also address aging among people with disabilities, the rights of older adults, and international experiences in policies and practices of care, with representatives from Argentina and JDC – The Joint.

Another highlight will be the presentation of Pod Pratear, a podcast aimed at audiences aged 50+, hosted by journalist Grace Stelmach Rubinstein, reinforcing the importance of communication and valuing active aging. Throughout the day, professionals in medicine, psychology, gerontology, social work, law, and nonprofit management will share experiences and best practices focused on promoting autonomy, dignity, and well-being for older adults.

The event is aimed at professionals and volunteers who work (or wish to work) with older adults, seniors engaged in professional or volunteer activities, representatives of civil society organizations, public managers, authorities, and leaders committed to aging-related issues.
