Four Democrats Gaslight Millions of Voters

Four Jewish Democratic members of Congress are urging voters, and particularly Jewish voters, to support Kamala Harris, because she supposedly is someone who “is, and will remain, a robust defender of Israel’s right and ability to defend itself.”

I’ll address that characterization of Harris later, but I want to highlight at the outset a crucial fact that those four Democrats either shockingly do not know or else are deliberately concealing from voters: Every available poll of public opinion in Israel confirms that Israelis themselves overwhelming prefer Donald Trump over Kamala Harris as the next US president.

In September of 2024, the Mitvim Institute published the result of a survey (page 16), conducted in August, that showed that, among the 85% of Israelis who had an opinion, 68% believed Trump would better serve Israel’s interests, while 14% believe Harris would.  By a ratio of almost 5 to 1, Israelis favored Trump over Harris.

On October 4, 2024, a Langer Research Associates poll showed that 54% of Israelis with an opinion favored Trump, while 24% favored Harris, a ratio of more than 2 to 1 in Trump’s favor.

Most recently, on October 28, Israel’s Channel 12 TV published a poll showing that 66% of Israelis with an opinion chose Trump, while 17% picked Harris—almost 4 to 1 in Trump’s favor.

American voters are closely divided between the two major candidates, but Israelis are not at all closely divided: They overwhelmingly favor Trump.

The four Democratic members of Congress claim to “carry a sacred trust to serve our constituents’ interests.”  But they never disclose that Israelis, by large margins, prefer Trump over Harris.  Apparently the “sacred trust” they carry gives them leeway to omit crucial facts when they’re urging voters to back a Democratic candidate.

I’m inclined to think that millions of Israelis have a better understanding of Israel’s best interests than do four Democratic members of Congress.  And history demonstrates that Trump’s term in office substantially benefited Israel in many ways.

President Trump actually did what many candidates promised they would do if elected but never did in the Oval Office: During his administration, the US recognized a united Jerusalem as Israel’s capitol and moved its embassy there.  The Trump administration recognized Israel’s claim to the strategically-important Golan Heights.  The Trump administration nurtured and oversaw the signing of the Abraham Accords—a big step forward in normalizing relations between Israel and moderate Arab states. The Trump administration withdrew funding (restored by the Biden/Harris administration) from Mahmoud Abbas’s kleptocratic, impotent Palestinian Authority, which continues to provide “pay for slay” payments to the families of terrorists guilty of murder(s).  The Trump administration imposed and enforced severe economic sanctions on the Islamic Republic of Iran, which vows to eradicate Israel and orchestrates the terrorist groups arrayed against it.  The Trump administration also withdrew the US from the Iran nuclear deal, which was agreed to by President Obama over strenuous objections from the Israeli government.

Perhaps most important, during Trump’s presidency Hamas never mounted a savage invasion from Gaza into Israel.  (Similarly, when Trump was president, Russia never invaded Ukraine.)  Hamas was mostly quiescent, probably because Hamas’s masters in Iran feared the joint response of a Trump administration and Israel.  The obviously weak and fumbling Biden/Harris administration (see, the chaotic US withdrawal from Afghanistan) created no similar fear.

Of course, no American, whether Jewish or not, is obligated to consider the interests of Israel when deciding how to vote.  But, if an American voter does want to consider Israel’s interests, he or she can review the record of Trump’s administration.  In light of that record, is there any conceivable reason to believe that four Democratic members of Congress know more about Israel’s best interests than do a very substantial majority of millions of Israeli citizens?  The answer, dear reader, is “no.”

Finally, let’s consider whether Harris truly is “a robust defender of Israel’s right and ability to defend itself.”  The most recent manifestation of Harris’ attitude toward Israel occurred on October 19, when she was conducting a rally, and a protester repeatedly shouted that Israel was conducting “genocide” in Gaza.  After the protester had been escorted from the room, Harris turned to the audience and said: “So, listen, what he’s talking about … it’s real, and so that’s not the subject I came to discuss today, but it’s real, and I respect his voice.”

Harris generated great controversy with her “it’s real” response to accusations of genocide in Gaza.  So, the next day, the Harris campaign attempted to defuse the controversy with this statement: “[S]he didn’t agree with defining the war as a genocide, and she has not expressed such a stance in the past, as this is not her position.”

So, we have learned that it is not Harris’ position that Israel is committing genocide.  But is it her position that Israel is not committing genocide?  To put it more forcefully, is it her position that those who claim that Israel is committing genocide are asserting something that is outrageously, viciously false?  The Harris campaign does not say.  And this is the stance of someone who is supposed to be a “robust” supporter of Israel.

Israelis are rooting for Trump, not Harris.  The partisan opinions of four Democratic members of Congress should not outweigh the opinions of millions of Israelis regarding what’s best for Israel.  And American voters who care about Israel should not be fooled by those partisan opinions.
