Gaza Redevelopment: Replicate European Redevelopment Post-WWII

Don’t reinvent the wheel. Replicate what worked in Europe after the German surrender:

  1. Ensure civilian protection and immediate and total disarmament and disbandment of all military and paramilitary organizations. Collect and destroy all weapons and ammunition. Sweep Gaza clean of hidden contraband. Recruit US, UN, NATO, or a private peace-keeping force to achieve these goals. Protect these goals by restricting cross-border entry and exit to gates with airport-quality security.
  2. Recruit reputable humanitarian agencies to distribute necessities according to need.
  3. Establish field hospitals to treat immediate medical needs.
  4. Erect temporary shelter for all Gazans.
  5. Hire Gazans to rebuild permanent Gaza.
  6. Erect public schools to counter bigotry and teach diversity, equity, and inclusion.
  7. Supervise democratic elections and the writing of a Constitution for Gaza consistent with the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and the UN Sustainable Development Goals.
  8. Offer international recognition, assistance, and collaboration.
  9. Protect and expand the Wadi Gaza Nature Reserve. Protect and preserve the seashore as well as the border with the Negev. Develop museums, e.g., of the Mediterranean, the Negev, and the Abrahamic religions. These can attract income from constructive tourism. Consider creating an international soccer league with players representing each country in the league on each team.
  10. Train Gazans to police Gaza and, at the appropriate time, withdraw the foreign peace-keeping force.
About the Author
Doug Dix, Ph.D., is Emeritus Professor at the University of Hartford and Secretary/Treasurer of MOMS: The Fund for Mothers with Young Children. He's been married to Rosenbloom Cohen for 53 years and is father of seven, and grandfather of thirteen children. He teaches that the family that matters is the ONE we all belong to and offers a blueprint for building that family. This blueprint is based on the Golden Rule, Tikkun Olam, and rejuvenated, evidence-based, Judaism. For 3,000 years, Judaism was the glue that held Jews together and empowered them to survive in the face of fiercest oppression. Now this most ancient religion is endangered, not by enemies, but by Jewish affluence. Israel ranks now among the richest and least religious nations of the world. It's lost its purpose, i.e., to be a blessing to all and a light to the nations (Gen, 22:18, Isaiah 42:6). I will blog to restore this holy mission to Judaism and Judaism to Israel by repairing the world.
