So much so that last year’s Mile Advisory Report published by CTech found that 60% of the startups it studied in Israel offer advanced decarbonization technologies, even though many weren’t directly linked to sustainability-driven industries.

Data shows that the clean tech landscape has grown in recent years to accommodate an increasing number of Israeli startups, with innovators developing products in sectors like green agriculture, meat substitutes, water infrastructure, recycling, innovative materials, waste, and food waste.

There’s also growing evidence that these startups are already beginning to make their presence felt on the world stage, with a particular focus on partnering with major clean energy hubs like China, among other international sustainability leaders.

At a time when many nations worldwide are committing to carbon neutrality plans, Israel has the potential to play a unique role in driving a sustainability revolution at scale. There are already signs that the startup nation’s global influence is beginning to transform the accessibility of decarbonization technology overseas.

Supporting the Sustainability Revolution

The growth of Israel as a sustainability hub is the result of a concerted government effort to support the growth of decarbonization technologies. More than NIS 23 billion ($6.3 billion) has been committed to establishing the country as a global leader in climate technology.

The initiative, backed by the Ministries of Finance, Energy, and Economy, is focused on supporting environmental goals while also fostering innovation and an industrial infrastructure to help support international investment.

One recent example of government support for clean tech innovation can be found in the Binational Industrial Research and Development (BIRD) Foundation, which is the result of a partnership with the United States.

The foundation has not only handed out $7.5 million in grants but is also expected to raise a further $8.5 million from private sources to support sustainability-focused projects.

With the aim of developing and commercializing clean energy systems, improving economic competitiveness, creating jobs, and strengthening energy security, the BIRD Foundation sees international governments and business leaders unite to deliver clean energy at scale and showcases why Israel is becoming a key player in the sustainability landscape.

However, BIRD is just one of a number of programs currently in place to help Israeli firms tackle climate challenges.

Climate tech accelerators and programs in place for Israeli firms in 2025 include the Climate Launchpad, which is Israel’s first startup program for cleantech companies to actively address climate change.

Another initiative is NetZero Ventures, which has been labeled as the nation’s most active investor and venture builder in the climate and energy ecosystems. Additionally, Climate First is a major scaling project that focuses on the climate tech sector, helping to support growth into global markets.

It’s this emphasis on taking high-potential projects internationally that appears to be transforming the impact that Israeli clean tech firms are having worldwide.

Israel’s clean tech initiatives have empowered the startup nation to align with other countries that are prioritizing sustainability initiatives naturally. This has helped more innovators evolve beyond the startup nation and expand into global markets.

The alignment in clean energy outlooks between Israel and China has helped the two nations to support their initiatives. The expansion of the Israeli 4D imaging firm Vayyar into China was a key example of the supportive ecosystem that has been created.

Originally developed to detect early-stage breast cancer, the technology has grown its use cases far beyond medtech and has significant potential in supporting vehicle automation, security, and signal testing.

China’s excellence in electric vehicle (EV) technology is one example of the Asian powerhouse’s prominence when it comes to clean energy, and Israel’s startup ventures possess a wealth of expertise that can span a vast range of domains to support the growth of sustainable industries in the East.

Exports from Israel to China increased by 122% between August 2024 and August 2025, illustrating the strong bonds forming between the two nations. With business expansion in China becoming more frictionless as its government continues to roll out stimulus packages to support growth, more startups will benefit from entering the world stage via the Southeast Asian nation.
