Humanity

The first person, Adam, began society.

After the flood, Noah started again.

Five thousand seven hundred and eighty-five years. A long time for civilization to try to become civilized.

Now, the world is on the verge of the most astounding and phenomenal technological achievements. These can brighten our lives, or, if in the wrong hands, the opposite.

Prosperity and peace versus dystopia and war. Will humanity succeed in being humane?

What can we learn from Adam? That even if we disobey G-d, even if we are booted out of paradise, it’s not the end of the story.

“Where are you?” G-d asked Adam. Even after the sin, G-d offers sinners the ability to examine where they are, and to figure out how to make things right again. Paradise is not lost forever. It is waiting for the right time, when people are ready to once again enter.

Noah was righteous, but his environment was polluted. People were totally enmeshed in constant sinning, and robbing one another. It was time for a flood to purify the world, to wash away the iniquity.

So evil was wiped off the face of the earth, and humanity was given another opportunity to save the day.

Then came the Jewish people. Eventually they were dispersed among the nations, to be a light, to teach by example how people can refine themselves.

And patiently, over two thousand years, Jews taught the nations, descendants of Adam and Noah, that humanity can make it work.

And the Jews prevailed. They were persecuted, but they stayed loyal to their holy mission.

And now, Israel stands up to world pressure with a firm determination to defeat the evil, and to wipe it off the face of the earth, thus purifying the world, and teaching nations the crucial importance of morality, as it is delineated in G-d’s Torah.

The Jewish people will prevail in their mission to save humanity. Across the globe, the message of Torah and the seven Noahide laws that G-d told Moses at Mount Sinai, reverberates throughout the world.

Redemption is close. The efforts of the past millennia will succeed. From sea to sea, nations will become aware of G-d,  and the beautiful world that He has created for us.

And there will be peace on earth, G-d’s wondrous paradise, forever.
