If Jerusalem Were a Woman, Whom Would You Want Her to Marry?

In the latest grand laser show in Jerusalem, the entire city became a stage, and the sky turned into a canvas. The multicolored lights adorned Jerusalem like a bride in her wedding finery, looking stunningly beautiful.

It got me thinking: if Jerusalem were a woman, who would you want her to marry?

Or, if you were a woman, who would you want to marry?

There are two men in the story and they both desire you. Let’s call them the first man and the other man.

The first man tells you: You are my beloved one and only wife.

The second man tells you: be my mistress, I already have two wives.

The first man loves you with all his heart and desires you. He takes care of you, keeps you young and energetic, buys beautiful clothes and fine jewelry, and makes everyone who sees you praise your beauty.

The Other Man, on the other hand, wants to possess you only to show the crowd how strong and conquering he is. He makes you wear a black robe, lets lice infest your hair, and your eyes lose their sparkle. He doesn’t care about your feelings, what he cares is that he can control you. People who see you only feel despair and sorrow.

The First Man, even at the time when he is away from you, no matter how far, he still cares deeply for you. Even after a long separation, he never fell in love with another woman. He writes countless love poems for you, which were widely sung. You are in his dream.

The Other Man, after leaving you, quickly forgets about you. How do you know? Because he doesn’t express such a love for you at all, except to say to others, “That woman is mine…”

Between these two men, whom would you choose to marry?

This woman is Jerusalem, and the two men are the Jews and the Muslims.

For Jews, Jerusalem is their only holy city, with no second holy place.

For Muslims, their first and second holy cities are Mecca and Medina, and they say Jerusalem is their third holy city. For them, Jerusalem is merely in the position of a mistress.

During the Ottoman Turkish period, under Muslim rule, the land of Jerusalem was “barren, desolate, sad, and despairing.” This was the sentiment of the great writer Mark Twain after visiting this land.

Today, under the diligent governance of the Jews, Jerusalem is full of vitality!

If you think using different historical periods is not quite appropriate, take a look at Jerusalem today. In the same period, walk through the Jewish Quarter and then the Muslim Quarter. I believe you will clearly see who truly cherishes this land.

If you check how many terrorist attacks (from the Muslim world) have committed in modern history in this land including Jerusalem, you may understand even more clearly about “what kind of love they have for this land”, is it love or is it hatred?

So, If Jerusalem were a woman, who would you want her to marry?

Or, if you were a woman, who would you want to marry?

I hope to get an honest answer from you!
