In honor of unsung heroes

I’d like to honor all the unsung heroes. All the people who are barely mentioned anywhere. You won’t find lengthy articles about them. Barely anyone knows them. It shouldn’t be like this, it mustn’t be like this, and I don’t care if you think this is narcissistic. Look in the mirror before you judge.

Medics fighting on the frontlines, in Ukraine, and elsewhere, risking their lives 24/7 to save others. Many of them die without anyone ever knowing their name. Indeed, I have no doubt those medics couldn’t care less about recognition. They truly are selfless heroes and have the  courage I doubt I’d ever match. At times, they died horrible deaths. But they know they are doing the right thing. They are doing what’s right. As we say in Polish, ”Zachowali się, jak trzeba.”

All the Ukrainian children who are now in Russia, abused and indoctrinated, and subjected to God knows what. Mr. Super-Duper Negotiator Trump, care to help get them out? Of course not. Just like Israeli hostages are still missing and likely tortured. All this negotiation talk. Words, nice suits, and nice dinners.

I remember watching a Ukrainian teenager who proudly proclaimed in his last live video, ”This is death, guys, Slava Ukraine,” only to be killed seconds later by Russian occupiers. This is heroism, he deserves praise and Wikipedia pages, not some propagandist criminal son of a bitch.

Stanislav Petrov, Soviet Air Defense Forces, who prevented a nuclear holocaust by judging a report of incoming US missiles to be a false alarm. He deserves all the praise and a lengthy Wikipedia page. Absolutely.

But not some genocidal criminal. Some are going to scream, ”Censorship,” and all the rest of this crap. No. In a sane world, genocidal criminals, and propagandists supporting and calling for genocide, some out of conviction, and others to get rich while standing on children’s corpses, their names would be condemned to infamy. People wincing when saying their name. Make it happne, God. Make it happen. Amen.
