Israel does not have to give the vaccine to the Palestinians

Recently many anti-Israeli activists who for years have been declaring Israel to be an Apartheid state are now accusing it of medical apartheid.

Covid-19 has spread throughout the entire world including Israel with as many as seventy thousand Israelis currently having the virus.

Luckily the Israeli government has used its health budget accordingly to purchase enough vaccines for its own population.

Anti-Zionist activists claim doing so has neglected the Palestinians living in Judea and Samaria are being discriminated against once again for being Palestinians.

The reality is the Palestinians have their own government who is supposed to be in charge of the wellbeing of its own citizens.

Palestinians have their own government with several ministries like the Education Ministry, Judicial Ministry, Foreign Ministry and most importantly the Health Ministry.

Palestinian Health Ministry like any other government ministry is responsible for providing guidelines for medical professions to ensure the safety of the sick, creating protocols and rules to protect the wellbeing of its own citizens and procuring the required medicines and vaccines required for clinics and hospitals.

2005 The Palestinian Legislative Council passed the Public Health Law with Chapter Three explaining all the responsibilities of the Palestinian Ministry of Health following:

Chapter Three
Combating Diseases

Article Ten
The Ministry shall take all the necessary and precautionary measures to stop the spread of the disease through:
1. Imposing vaccination or needed medication
2. Confiscate and destroy all material contaminated with the
disease, or materials that could be a source of the spread of the
disease, in coordination with the competent bodies.
3. To bury the dead in the manner they deem fit.

Article Ten of Chapter three clearly states the Ministry of Health is required to take care of vaccinating its own population and fully responsible for creating its own vaccine program.

Palestinian rights activists may argue that the Health ministry is entirely incompetent and unable to accomplish anything meaningful.

The World Health Organization referred to the Health Ministry of Palestine as “incomplete, fragmented, unreliable, and outdated”.  $86 Million in assistance from USAID was given to the Ministry of Health to upgrade a central database is to provide computerized and up to date information on matters such as medical professionals, patient medical records, and prescription drug use.

Palestinian Authority has its own system in place to combat Covid-10 and is an autonomous government entity.

If funds of the ministry were misappropriated it is not Israel’s responsibility to bail them out like it would be if it were the Lebanese Ministry of Health of or Syrian Ministry of Health.
