Justice: The Story I Will Tell My Children on Holocaust Remembrance Day

My children, listen carefully. Today, on Holocaust Remembrance Day, the weight of the past feels both distant and devastatingly near. The years between the Holocaust and the horrors of October 7, 2023, collapse into a single, pivotal moment of historical reckoning—a moment where the screams of “Never Again” pierce through time, compelling us not only to confront our past but also to urgently reimagine our future.

You see these hands? They carry the echoes of generations. These lines, these creases—they are not just marks on skin, but a living map of survival, etched with hope and the unwavering pursuit of justice.

Holocaust Remembrance Day is more than a day of sadness. It is a day of strength. A day when we remember that our family, our people, have always chosen light over darkness, hope over despair.

Let me tell you about David Ben Gurion—a leader who deeply understood justice. When Eichmann was captured, many might have sought immediate vengeance. But he insisted on a trial in Israel. Do you understand why? Because true justice isn’t about the satisfaction of revenge; it is about establishing truth, making the world bear witness. They could have used a bullet. Instead, they used words. They used a courtroom. And in doing so, they gave voice to those who had been silenced. They created a record that would ripple through generations, shaping our understanding of justice for decades to come.

Just as Ben Gurion understood the power of truth and due process in the face of unimaginable evil, so too, in the wake of October 7th, we continue this vital work. Shaped by the Holocaust’s enduring legacy and galvanized by the atrocities of October 7th, we founded October 7 Justice Without Borders—an organization born out of the conviction that justice must prevail, even in the face of unimaginable horror. The October Trials stand as a testament to our commitment to justice—addressing the immediate need for accountability while forging global legal and moral frameworks that will resonate through generations. Through these historic proceedings, we reaffirm fundamental principles: justice is non-negotiable, impunity is unacceptable, and the pursuit of accountability is an absolute moral imperative.

These trials are more than legal proceedings; they are a solemn declaration of unconditional humanity. We are ensuring that the world bears witness to what happened to our people, to our hostages, to our men, women and children. Each testimony we record is a sacred act—a fragile piece of a shattered universe carefully reconstructed through the brave voices of survivors.

Every life is an entire universe. When I look at you, I see universes. Infinite. Precious. Irreplaceable. Justice is how we honor those universes. It is how we say: You matter. Your pain matters. Your story matters. When we document a testimony, when we pursue accountability, we are speaking to the future. We are creating a bridge between what was and what will be. Our legal actions are love letters to our ancestors, promises to our children. They are how we transform pain into purpose, silence into strength. Against those who would destroy us, we fight with truth and fair trials, weapons stronger than bullets. Against those who would silence us, we speak. Against those who would erase us, we remember. We are meticulously collecting evidence of the atrocities of that day, crafting a court-written narrative that will stand as a record for generations to come. Remembrance is action. We fight terror with law. We fight silence with evidence. We fight impunity with justice.

Remember this, my loves: Trauma can be inherited, but so can resilience. So can hope. So can the unbreakable spirit of a people who have survived, who continue to thrive. From the ashes of the Holocaust to the courtrooms addressing October 7, our journey continues. We are not just seeking justice for what happened. We are creating a framework of resilience that will protect and nurture generations to come. This is our inheritance. This is our story. This is how we turn darkness into light.

Unbroken. Unsilenced. Eternal.

Remember, each of you is a universe. And in our pursuit of justice, we honor the infinite value of every single one. As you grow, my children, remember the importance of bearing witness, of speaking truth to power, and of standing up for justice wherever you see injustice. Let the lessons of the past guide your actions and shape your future, ensuring that the promise of ‘Never Again’ becomes a reality.
