Netanyahu, the spoiled teenage brat
“I got drunk and crashed the car, but Daddy’s lawyer fixed it up for me.” This is a classic style statement from a spoiled teenage brat from a rich family. Netanyahu is the spoiled teenager while America is the rich daddy always rescuing his spoiled son. Big Daddy America sends ammunition, weaponry, and $3.8 billion in financial military aid. It vetoes UN Security Council decisions, moves the embassy to Jerusalem, and stands up for Israel in international forums. Even when the IDF in its Gaza campaign has killed over 10,000 children, there is merely a mild verbal rebuke by Biden of “indiscriminate bombing”, but, naturally, no action by Daddy. Finally, in frustration at the wilful misbehavior of his wayward son, Daddy America declined to veto a UN Security Council calling for a ceasefire. Spoiled teenager Netanyahu exploded stating Israel has a right to defend itself. The actual result of Netanyahu’s statement is over 10,000 Gazan kids and still over 100 hostages being held.
Big Daddy America goes along with immoral behavior, illegal actions, and blatant disregard by brat Netanyahu for several reasons. AIPAC is the primary Israel lobby in the US. American politicians, journalists, and political scientists state that AIPAC is one of a few very powerful lobby groups in the US. Evangelical Christians see in Israel some precursor for Jesus’s return. Many Americans hate Muslims in general and Arabs in particular. The defense industry makes much money from military hardware supplies to Israel. Also, there are nine Jewish senators and 26 Jewish members of the House of Reps. They represent over 6% of Congress while Jews comprise under 2% of the US population.
I wrote the above two paragraphs and then I saw that this concept was not so original. Nahum Barnea painted an imagined scene where US officials were seen laughing at Netanyahu’s cancellation of a delegation to Washington in protest. “Netanyahu has been dealing with America the way a spoiled teenager deals with his parents: with perpetual rebellion, perpetual insults and perpetual scandals.” Perhaps this shared teenage metaphor does indeed represent the truth about Netanyahu.
What happens to wayward teenagers? Some reform, some are disowned, and some take to drugs and crime. Netanyahu will never reform himself. The only solution is for the people of Israel to disown him.
