Now or never!

With the latest horrifying news from Mariupol of a maternity ward and children’s ward suffering a Russian air strike, the time has come for NATO to act! The free world cannot allow Russian aggression to continue, committing atrocities against civilians. If the USA is unprepared to act in support of European intervention, then so be it; but there has to be concerted action in support of Ukraine; it is no longer sufficient to agree sanctions against Putin’s regime; he is clearly unfazed by economic penalties.

Why is the West running scared? The threat of a war with Russia; the fear this may become a nuclear one, given Putin has put his nuclear arsenal on alert; division among NATO countries; no stomach to oppose tyranny? Putin knows that the West has more than the capability to wipe Russia off the map, as, indeed, Russia has the power to destroy Europe; so neither side will derive any benefit from an exchange of nuclear weapons; this assumes both sides are not led by mad men. If Putin “has lost it”, then the sooner Russia’s military steps in to remove him, the better. The price is too high to pay to allow Putin to further his territorial ambitions.

About the Author
Peter John Beyfus is an historian, published author, poet, and a person who prides himself on “thinking outside the box”. I have written many essays on Jewish themes, published in various journals, and I take a keen interest in international affairs. I believe in robustly defending Israel’s right to exist, to expose anti-Zionist propaganda and advocating the advance of peaceful co-existence between Israel and its Arab neighbours. Dialogue rather than violence is the best way to achieve peace. With the signing of the Abraham Accords we have witnessed a seismic shift toward a major change in the Arab mindset, and this gives one optimism for a brighter future in the Middle East.
