On Trump’s New National Security Strategy and Democracy; and on Disinformation

On Democracy

For Trump, as far as can be seen, there is no urgent need to prop up a “democracy” such as Israel. Such was the sentiment that was expressed by his New National Security Strategy, published yesterday.

As things stand, Israel is veering towards an autocratic form of government and the sons and daughters of the upholders of the vision of a Jewish democratic state are now leaving the country.

Why should America support a state whose judiciary and journalism are under threat?

Trump’s recent appeal to President Herzog to pardon Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu would herald a transformed state where a liberal Jewish democracy is soft on crime – a state which provides the Americans with a model for the lenient treatment of Trump himself.

Furthermore, why should the Jews of the US, together with world Jewry at large, support an Israel the democracy of which does not represent their wishes; the democracy of which supports the Haredim – whose numbers are increasing – but not the Diaspora?

Here it should be said that it is in the interests of the Haredim to encourage a liberal democracy where any war will be fought by liberal democrats rather than those studying in yeshivas.

Regime change in Iran, for those whose only formula is an American backed Israel, will, after all, not necessarily make Iranians any more pro-Israel: viz the pre-Twelve Day War pronouncements of Reza Pahlavi, the son of the toppled Shah of Iran.

On Disinformation

The reader is requested to wait yet a while and consider the subject of the use of Disinformation as a tool to ensure that Israel and the Diaspora survive.

It is apparent to the writer that, come war or peace, the state of Israel has looked down with disdain on the use of Disinformation. Reference has usually been made to the Upright nature of Am Israel and the fact that Truth will win.

Did Truth win when Abraham told his wife to lie and say that she was his sister?

Did the Allies not win the First and Second World Wars by the unashamedly widespread use of Disinformation?

The British Government was under particular constraint in its use of this tool before the US joined the war.

Despite the openly declared raison detre of converting non-islamic nations, Hamas has managed to win the propaganda and diplomatic wars worldwide.

Yesterday, on BBC Radio’s Six O’clock News, the newsreader did not even bother to mention that the total Palestinian death toll was according to the Hamas Health Ministry. And these wildly exaggerated figures have their toll: on Jews, not just in the UK, but in Israel itself.

The onslaught of lies does not end there.

And the only way that lies can be fought with is lies.
