One Mahdi Plus 3 Messiahs VS Armageddon”s Super Hot Planet
Tens of millions of Americans sweltered under furnace-like temperatures as central and eastern American cities hunkered down for a heat wave. Over the last four years, more than 200,000 people have died in the E.U. due to extreme heat.
Figures from France’s Public Health Agency show that deaths rose 29% in the last week of June compared to one year before. The country recorded its hottest day ever on 24 June, with temperatures hitting 41C (105.8F) in Paris and half the nation was placed under a red heat alert.
The urgent signals coming from our planet include rising seas, raging wildfires, heat waves and melting glaciers. The years 2015 to 2025 were the 11 warmest on record. Global mean near-surface temperatures in 2025 stood at about 1.43 degrees Celsius above the pre-industrial baseline, ranking it as the second or third warmest year since records began. The signals coming from Earth include rising seas, raging wildfires, heat waves and melting glaciers
Climate change impacts manifest across regions, disproportionately burdening populations with limited adaptive capacity, which include rising seas, raging wildfires, heat waves and melting glaciers. The scientific consensus is in reports from the World Meteorological Organization, NASA, the Copernicus Climate Change Service and other authoritative bodies, paints an image of accelerating climate disruption.
Long-term warming trends, compounded by potential El Nino influences, mean that 2026 will likely rank among the warmest years, potentially challenging recent records. Sea-level rise also continues unabated. The global average sea level has risen between 21 cm and 24 cm since 1880, with acceleration driven by thermal expansion and loss from glaciers and ice sheets. In 2025, levels remained close to the record highs observed in 2024.
And, glacial melt and Arctic amplification are proceeding rapidly. There have been profound changes, with record-low Arctic sea ice in early 2026 and accelerated Greenland and Antarctic ice loss contributing to sea-levels. Extreme weather events have also intensified. The frequency, severity and duration of heat waves, droughts, wildfires, floods and tropical cyclones have increased markedly.
Europe is warming at twice the global average rate. The 2025 European heat waves caused thousands of excess deaths, with estimates ranging from 4,700 to more than 16,000. Wildfires ravaged parts of the Iberian Peninsula, with more than 670,000 hectares burned across Portugal and Spain last year.
The 2025 Los Angeles wildfires were the costliest on record, destroying thousands of structures, displacing more than 50,000 people and causing damage exceeding $135 billion.
An El Nino event essentially redistributes heat on Planet Earth. Currently, the subsurface heat in the Pacific is moving east across the ocean and ascending to the surface from the deep waters, the initial stages of El Nino. The Global Seasonal Climate Update showed that sea-surface temperatures are rising rapidly.
For half the world’s population, the water in their drinking glasses comes from groundwater, which also supplies 40% of global irrigation projects. Alarmingly, more than a third of the planet’s aquifers, or groundwater basins, are dropping down. The Middle East is among the driest regions in the world, with water availability about 10 times lower than the global average said the World Bank. Arctic sea ice hits lowest winter level, as heat records are shattered worldwide.
A report published on March 20, 2026 found that heat waves in the US West have increased in intensity by more than 7 degrees Fahrenheit because of climate change, and that this event was 800 times more likely than it would have been in a world without global warming. The 11 hottest years ever recorded were all between 2015 and 2025, the United Nations’ weather and climate agency confirmed in its Global Climate annual report.
In Biblical days these natural catastrophes were blamed on human sins and God’s punishments of the sinners and their victims. The mysterious New Testament book of Revelation uses the word Armageddon, although it does not appear in the Hebrew Bible, and appears only once in the Greek New Testament, in Revelation 16:16 which makes no mention of armies being predicted to one day gather on or near Har Megiddo; but instead seems to predict only that “they (will gather) rulers together to … Armageddon”. (We know now that oil, gas and coal are kings.)
Both Judaism and Islam teach their followers to take care of the earth. Muslims and Jews also believe that humans should act as guardians and trustees (stewardship and khalifah) of our planet, and everyone will be held accountable by God for their actions. All three Abrahamic religions teach their followers to take care of the earth. Europe is the world’s fastest-warming continent and has been heating up twice as fast as other regions since the 1980s.
Like Judaism and Christianity, Islam has a powerful eschatological strand. Islam anticipates the end to the world as we know it, a final historical confrontation between the forces of good and evil; after which human life will be transformed in a very positive way.
Many Islamic traditions (Ahadith) say that Prophet Jesus, will return and will join forces with the Islamic messiah, the Mahdi, in a battle against a false messiah, the cruel one eyed Dajjal, called Armilos in Jewish tradition. And Iran has insisted it won’t discuss its ballistic missile program or its support of regional militias. Now would be a good time for one or more Messianic figures to start to work.
As a Reform Rabbi who believes that the world wide upheavals we see, are part of the birth pains of the Messianic Age, I offer Christians and Muslims some positive insights from the Jewish Prophets and the Rabbinic Sages.
Many millions of Jews, Christians and Muslims believe the wars of Gog and Magog (Gog u-Magog in Hebrew and “Yajuj and Majuj” in Arabic) which started in the 18th to 20th centuries will come to an end in the 21st century.
It is true that human society changed more rapidly, violently and fundamentally in the last 250 years than ever before in history. Doctors saved the lives of millions. Dictators sacrificed the lives of millions. Populations are exploding in Africa and populations are declining in Europe. Technology produces both worldwide prosperity and worldwide pollution at the same time.
Should we look upon the future with optimistic hope or with fatalistic trepidation? Is the world and our society heading towards a wonder-filled new age, or toward a doomsday? Or are both occurring almost concurrently because breakdown is always a prelude to breakthrough?
Jews, whose Biblical prophets were the ones who first wrote about a future Messianic Age, recognize that the birth of a Messianic Age must be preceded by its birth-pangs. But the prophets of Israel also emphasize the glories of a future world living in peace and prosperity with justice for all.
Ancient Jewish prophecies did proclaim that there would be an end to the world as we know it. But they did not prophesy that the world will come to an end, nor did the Prophets of Israel offer an exact date for the transition.
The exact advent of the Messianic Age is not knowable because humans have free will and thus the exact time and manner of redemption cannot be determined in advance. Much depends on what we humans do.
The beginning of the Messianic Age is a time of transition from one World Age into another. How we move through this transition, either with resistance or acceptance, will determine whether the transformation will happen through cataclysmic changes or by a gradual reform of human society; which will lead to a world filled with peace, prosperity and spiritual tranquility.
The Prophets of Israel conceived redemption as a transformation of human society that would occur through the catalyst of the Jewish community. This transformation, which will take place in this world at some future time, is called the Messianic Age.
The transition to the Messianic Age is called the birth pangs of the Messiah. The birth of a redeemed Messianic world may be the result of an easy or difficult labor. If everyone would simply live according to the moral teachings of his or her religious tradition, we would ourselves have helped bring about the Messianic Age.
But, if we will not do it voluntarily, it will come about through social and political upheavals, worldwide conflicts and generation gaps and most obvious of all climate change which will affect both nature and the economy-society. The Messiah (Mahdi) refers to one or more human agents of God who help bring about a non-destruction positive transformation.
The Jewish tradition teaches that this agent of God (together with several forerunners and many disciples) will be a human being, a descendant of Prophets Abraham and David, with great qualities of national leadership similar to Prophet Moses and Prophet Mohammed. The arrival of the Messianic Age is what’s really important, not the personality of the agents who bring it about, since they are simply the instruments of God, who ultimately is the real Redeemer.
The Islamic 1440s we are now living in, is the age of the coming of Hazrat Mahdi. Prophet Jesus will also return to Earth in this century. As Prophet Micah states: “In the last days the mountain of the LORD’s temple will be established as the highest of the mountains; and exalted above the hills, and peoples will stream to it. Many nations will come and say, “Come, let us go up to the mountain of the LORD, to the temple of the God of Jacob. He will teach us his ways, so that we may walk in his paths.
“The Torah will be broadcast from Zion, the word of the LORD from Jerusalem. He will judge between many peoples and will settle disputes for strong nations far and wide. They will beat their swords into plowshares and their spears into pruning hooks. Nation will not take up sword against nation, nor train for war anymore. Everyone will sit under their own vine and under their own fig tree, and no one will make them afraid, for the LORD GOD has spoken. All the nations may walk in the name of their gods, but we (Jews, Christians and Muslims) will walk in the name of the LORD our God for ever and ever.” (Prophet Micah 4:1-5)
One of the signs of the End of Days is the arrival and defeat of Gog and Magog (Ya’juj and Ma’juj or Ajuj and Majuj). Gog and Magog appear in the Hebrew Bible, the Christian Bible, and the Islamic Quran as individuals, tribes, countries and catastrophic acts of nature.
The Quran mentions Gog and Magog twice: “He said: “This (barrier) is a mercy from my Lord: but when the warning of my Lord comes to pass, He will reduce it to dust (and Gog and Magog—the Colonialist Empires, the Nazis, and the Communists would be released into the world); and the promise of my Lord is true.” (18:98) So Gog and Magog are destructive groups like the Colonialist Empires, the Nazis, and the Communists, who near the time of the end of days will penetrate into every part of the world.
The other mention of Gog and Magog in the Quran is: “But there is a ban on a town which We have destroyed: that they (the people of the town) shall not return (to reclaim that town as their own); until Gog and Magog are let through (the barrier), and swiftly spread out in every direction.” (21:95-96) This verse refers to Jerusalem, destroyed by the Romans in 70 CE, and only reclaimed 18 centuries later as Israel’s capital, following the era of the defeat of the Nazis, the Communists, and the Colonialist Empires, who had been Gog and Magog for generations.
Thus, humanity has so far passed through the most devastating era of human history. However, we have not yet reached the goal of the Messianic Age when “They (all nations) will beat their swords into plowshares and their spears into pruning hooks. Nation will not take up sword against nation, nor will they train for war anymore. Everyone will sit under their own vine and under their own fig tree, and no one will make them afraid, for the LORD GOD has spoken.” (Prophet Micah 4:2-4)
Malachi 3:1 states that prophet Malachi foretold; “Then suddenly the Lord you are seeking will come to his (Golden Gate) temple; the (Messiah) messenger of the covenant, whom you desire, will come.’ Ezekiel 44:1–3: prophesied that the Eastern Gate (often called the Golden Gate) would be shut because the “Lord, the God of Israel, has entered through it.” The gate currently remains sealed in Jerusalem, which many interpret as a fulfillment awaiting the Messiah’s return.
The Ottoman Turks blocked up the Golden Gate in 1530 CE and a cemetery was planted in front of the Golden Gate thinking that a Jewish Messiah would not set foot in a cemetery. However, when Messiah returns to Earth it has been prophesied that at the moment his feet touch the ground at the Mount of Olives there will be a great earthquake, causing the Golden Gate to open. And a Messiah will walk through the open Golden Gate and into the Temple area.
“On that day His feet will stand on the Mount of Olives, which lies to the east of Yerushalayim; and (the population of) the Mount of Olives will be split in half from east to west, to make a huge valley. Half of the mountain will move toward the north, and half of it toward the south.” ( Zechariah 14:4)
The Golden Gate is the only eastern gate of the Jerusalem Temple Mount, and one of only two Gates of the Old City of Jerusalem that used to offer access into the city from the East side. The gate has been sealed since 1541, the most recent of several sealing. Its interior can be accessed from the Jerusalem Temple Mount.
In Jewish tradition, the Messiah will enter Jerusalem through the Golden Gate, coming from the Mount of Olives. Christians and Muslims generally believe that this was the gate through which Jesus entered Jerusalem. The Golden Gate is a rectangular stonework structure with two decorated facades.
Unlike other gates in the Muslim al-Aqsa enclave, the eastern façade was not built level with the wall of the enclave, but projects two meters out from the wall. On the ground floor level a vaulted hall is divided by four columns into two aisles, which lead to the Door of Mercy, Bab al-Rahma, and the Door of Repentance, Bab al-Taubah.
The 1st-century Jewish historian, Josephus, mentions an «eastern gate» in his Antiquities of the Jews, and makes note of the fact that this gate was considered within the far northeastern extremity of the inner sacred court. The Mishnah mentions a former causeway which led out of the Temple Mount eastward over the Kidron valley, extending as far as the Mount of Olives.
Rabbi Eliezer, dissenting, says that it was not a causeway, but rather marble pillars over which cedar boards had been laid, was used by the High Priest and his entourage. This gate, known as the Shushan Gate, was not used by the masses to enter the Temple Mount, but reserved only for the High Priest and those that aided him when taking out the scapegoat on Yom Kippur.
Also the Jewish Nation will welcome non-Jews to become Jews as Prophet Zechariah states: “Thus says the Lord of hosts: ‘In those days ten men from every language of the nations shall grasp the sleeve of a Jewish man, saying, “Let us go with you, for we have heard that God is with you.” (Zechariah 8:23)
In Jerusalem on the Temple Mount a small Jewish structure equipped to broadcast religious services worldwide could be built near the Dome of the Rock, 650 feet north of the Al-Aqsa mosque, (provided Muslims cooperate) which would fulfill the words of Prophet Joel (3:16) who states: “The Lord broadcasts from Zion, and utters His voice from Jerusalem”
Prophet Isaiah declares:( 2:2–4) 2 “It shall come to pass in the latter days that the mountain of the house of the Lord shall be established as the highest of the mountains, and shall be lifted up above the hills; and all the nations shall flow to it, 3 and many peoples shall come, and say: “Come, let us go up to the mountain of the Lord, to the house of the God of Jacob, that he may teach us his ways and that we may walk in his paths.” For out of Zion shall go forth Torah and the word of the Lord from Jerusalem. 4 He shall judge between (all) nations, and shall decide disputes for many peoples; they shall beat their swords into plowshares, and their spears into pruning hooks; nation shall not lift up sword against nation, neither shall they learn war anymore.
This era will begin when Israelis and Palestinians make a long lasting two state partnership of peace; thus fulfilling the 2700 year old vision of Prophet Isaiah: “In that day there will be a highway from Egypt to Assyria. The Assyrians will go to Egypt, and the Egyptians to Assyria. The Egyptians and Assyrians will worship together. In that day Israel will join a three-party alliance with Egypt and Assyria, a blessing upon the heart. The LORD of Hosts will bless them saying, “Blessed be Egypt My people, Assyria My handiwork, and Israel My inheritance.”… (Isaiah 19:23-5)
