President Trump’s Shabbat proclamation, and a story in the Talmud
The President’s proclamation encouraging Jews to keep Shabbat is reminiscent of a story in the Talmud.
A sage came to a Persian ruler, and the ruler rose, walked over to the rabbi, and straightened his sash. “Jews are a priestly nation,” he said.
The Lubavitcher Rebbe spoke about this story, and explained that when the Jewish people live up to their mission to be loyal to G-d, then non-Jews, even powerful rulers, assist us.
There is now a growing movement among Jews to come closer to G-d and to their Jewish heritage. And now the American president is encouraging them in this regard.
It’s interesting that Trump visited the resting place of the Rebbe, and he prayed and meditated there. Shortly after that he became president a second time, and he has fought against antisemitism, especially on college campuses.
He helped Israel to bombard a common enemy. And now he is encouraging the Jewish people to come closer to their heritage.
Isaiah (49; 23) predicts that in the future, kings and princesses will aid the Jewish people. Perhaps we are seeing this happening now.
We are living in miraculous times. G-d is protecting His chosen nation, chosen to be a light to the world.
Redemption with Moshiach is very close. May it happen now.
