Reality in Israel

As parents, we try to protect our kids. From the moment that they are born, we hold their heads, we babyproof the house, we watch them, care for them and protect them. As they get older, we hope and pray that they have learnt how to protect themselves, from physical dangers, from stranger dangers, and emotional dangers.

We still continue to worry about them, even as they are adults, because that is part of love.

Over the last year and half of this war, we, like almost every single one of our friends, have children who have answered the call to serve. We all have son and daughter warriors, protecting this land, raising children oftentimes while the other parent is serving, and doing all that we must to continue to live in this land.

As tens of our fellow countrymen still await the return of their loved ones held captive in Gaza, those that are still alive and those that, brutally murdered, must be returned for proper burial, as hundreds of thousands of our fellow citizens have been themselves drafted, millions have been drafted to the civilian front of the war.

To those of you who may not understand what this means, the below picture speaks for itself.

This is our reality.

These children, who could be ANY of our children and grandchildren, were on their way to school this morning in my hometown, minutes from their houses.. Their attentive bus driver, received the warning from the home front command, and did as intructed, stopped the bus and had them all ‘assume the position’ , which includes, holding their heads. We are not always there to do it for them, they have learnt to do it themselves.

This is our reality.

Friends, please share this truth
