Trying to make dishonesty and opportunism work for those who don’t.
Shapiro said it so well: ‘The conservative movement is also in danger from charlatans who claim to speak in the name of principle but actually traffic in conspiracism and dishonesty. Those of us with a microphone have a moral obligation to call that out by name.’ Does he listen to himself?
At the first Turning Point USA Conference since the murder of its founder Charlie Kirk, Shapiro, the sharp-tongued American Orthodox Jew with his machine-gun polemics, lambasted all kinds of fringe anti-left-wing public figures. Yet, on the most influential elephant in the room, he stayed silent.
Donald Trump fits every word of the above quote. Yet, like for most Republican politicians and commentators, the most powerful and destructive ‘charlatan who claims to speak in the name of principle but actually traffics in conspiracism and dishonesty’ stays untouchable.
How do these prominent right-wingers justify themselves? The first answer is, they don’t. Deeper down, the answer must be opportunism—the core of right-wing activism. Being right-wing means to clothe greed and inequality in the mantle of freedom (to see others as unequal). Yet, most ‘right-wingers’ are independently poor and ignorant of the ruse.
What’s one lie on top of all the others that serve self-serving liars? At the moment, for the right, trashing Trump is political suicide. They’ll tell us later they had no choice. But of course, they did, as Marjorie Taylor Green has now shown so courageously (read on here). The American voters, if they already have the sophistication to distinguish the leader from the followers, will not forgive them their unscrupulousness and complicity.
The confrontation at the conference was, of course, the direct result of Kirk often talking from both sides of his mouth. The Internet is full of proofs of this that are not (yet) AI-generated, as I have shown before.
But the fundamental difference of opinion doesn’t come from Kirk but from the right-wing dilemma between hating Jews as the best opposite of equality or using Jews (who lack safety on the left) to help execute the right-wing agenda, only to blame the Jews when the population revolts.
I’m looking forward to more and more intense right-wing infighting over who will take the reins from Trump until they discover that Trump will not go at all. At least not in the way the US Constitution prescribes.

Like most of his readers, he believes in being friendly, respectful, and loyal. However, if you think those are his absolute top priorities, you might end up disappointed. His first loyalty is to the truth. He agrees that in a post-truth world, that's irrelevant, but then this is for the record. He will try to stay within the limits of democratic and Jewish law, but he won't lie to support opinions or people when don't deserve that. (Yet, we all make honest mistakes, which is just fine and does not justify losing support.) Chronologically, his most influential teachers are his parents, Nico (natan) van Zuiden and Betty (beisye) Nieweg, Wim Kan, Mozart, Harvey Jackins, Marshal Rosenberg, Reb Shlomo Carlebach, and, lehavdil bein chayim lechayim, Rabbi Dr. Natan Lopes Cardozo, Rav Zev Leff, and Rav Meir Lubin. This short list doesn't mean to disrespect others who taught him a lot or a little. One of his rabbis calls him Mr. Innovation [Ish haChidushim]. Yet, his originalities seem to root deeply in traditional Judaism, though they may grow in unexpected directions. In fact, he claims he's modernizing nothing. Rather, mainly basing himself on the basic Hebrew Torah text, he tries to rediscover classical Jewish thought almost lost in thousands of years of stifling Gentile domination and Jewish assimilation. In short, his main political positions are among others: anti-Trumpism, for Zionism, Intersectionality, non-violence, anti those who abuse democratic liberties, anti the fake ME peace process, for original-Orthodoxy, pro-Science, pro-Free Will, anti-blaming-the-victim, and for down-to-earth, classical optimism, and happiness.
