Scandalous Sara — Again

On the prime minister’s recent flight from Tel Aviv to Kyiv, capitol of Ukraine, an unusual event occurred because of an unusual lady, Sara Netanyahu, Bibi’s wife.

As the flight began, the captain went on the loud-speaker to welcome the prime minister aboard. He did not welcome Sara by neglect. And Sara, furious as always, her ego always demanding first-class attention, went on the war-path.

She got up from her seat and walked to the cockpit demanding to enter and to chastise the pilot for overlooking her presence.

She was held back by security guards who did not allow her to enter. A heated discussion (only Sara’s heat) ensued and shortly thereafter the captain went on the loud-speaker again to welcome aboard the prime minister’s scandalous wife.

On arrival in Kyiv, Sara could not be seen smiling. She was still chafing over the lack of a personal welcome on the flight.

The Netanyahu’s were greeted by young Ukrainian girls dressed in full Ukrainian costumes and were presented with a bouquet of flowers and a large loaf of Ukrainian bread and salt, a traditional welcome practice.

But here again, at the official welcoming ceremony, Sara Netanyahu created another scandal. She took a slice of the traditional Ukrainian bread and threw it on the ground. She was condemned by all the Ukrainian press and television for her lack of respect fot Ukrainian tradition. They declared the official welcome ceremony a failure due to Sara’s disrespectful action and called it a disgrace for the Ukrainian people and nation.

This visit visibly shows the entire world the meanness and lack of sensitivity and respect of the Israeli prime minister’s wife, Sara .

Bibi’s efforts at gaining Ukrainian support may be diminished but the memory of Sara’s stupid act will linger long in the memory of Ukrainians who dislike Jews.

The Ukraine, like Israel, is the only country in the world which has both a Jewish president and a Jewish prime minister, surprisingly unusual for a country which for centuries had oppressed, persecuted, and killed many thousands of Jews. The Cossack pogroms resulted in tragic murders of the Jewish population.

On April 6-9, 1903, two Ukraianian Christian children were found dead. The Jewish community was accused of murdering them in order to use their blood for baking Passover matzot. The accusation was made by Kishinev’s bishop.

In the two days of murderous riots 120 Jews had been killed, 92 severely wounded and more than 500 slightly injured. 700 Jewish homes were burned down and 500 Jewish-owned shops were looted.

Our national poet, Chayim Nachman Bialik, wrote a magnificent poem about the infamous Kishinev pogrom which lasted two days , called “In The City of Slaughter”.

Neither the police nor the military attempted to stop the massacres until the third day. Hundreds of dead Jewish bodies filled the streets of Kishinev. The local population followed the Cossacks shouting “Kill all the Jews”.

Babies were torn to pieces and smashed against walls by the blood-thirsty mobs.

There was a second Ukrainian pogrom two years later in 1905. 25 Jews were killed and 56 severely wounded.

This second pogrom spurred 600 more pogroms throughout the Russian Empire in 1905.

The Kishinev pogrom stunned the western world. The New York Times wrote of the massacres and destruction in detail. The American president Theodore Roosevelt condemned it.

But the 1903 Kishinev pogrom had more tragic predecessors. In 1648-1650 there was a terrible Cossack uprising determined to massacre Jews in the Ukraine.

It was led by the Cossack hetman Bogdan Chmielnicki. Under his leadership the Cossacks murdered 100,000 Jews and destroyed 500 Jewish villages and communities in the Ukraine and Poland.

Unbelievably, Chmielnicki became and remains to this day a Ukrainian national hero, statues in his honor are found in many Ukrainian cities and one city in Ukraine bears his name .

With the tragic and murderous history of Ukrainians and Jews, it is a wonder that the country is now led by two elected Jews. Will miracles never cease?

Now the Netanyahu’s are in the Ukrainian capitol. Not to visit the parks and museums but to inspire the Russian-speaking Ukrainian citizens in Israel to vote for Likud and to re-elect him for another term of office.

Maybe scandalous Sara will be able to put a smile on her shameful face. Maybe the captain on the return flight to Tel-Aviv will remember to welcome Sara Netanyahu aboard.

This gesture will prevent her from trying to storm the cockpit.

Shameful Sara disgraces us from day to day. It’s time for her to move back to Caesarea and take her husband with her..
