Senator Schumer interferes in the affairs of the sovereign state
President Biden stated that Senator Chuck Schumer’s call for new election in Israel is “echoed the concerns of many Americans” and that “He made a good speech”.
The pattern of interference in the affairs of another country is typical for the leadership of the Democratic Party of United States of America. In his book the Prime Minister of Israel Benjamin Netanyahu describes the disrespectful attitude toward the State of Israel and its elected leaders. “Obama and member of his administration constantly disparaged the motives for my opposition to the deal in briefings to the press. To them, I was a narrow-minded small-time politician maneuvering for my personal political survival. One even briefed an American journalist that I was little more than a ‘chickenshit’”. The Democratic President, Bill Clinton, when he called to congratulate Netanyahu with his election victory, said: “Bibi, I’ve got to hand it to you.’ He chuckled. ‘We did everything we could to bring you down. But you beat us fair and square”.
Chuck Schumer, the Democratic Senate majority leader and the highest-ranking Jewish official in the United States made following remarks from the Senate floor. Schumer believes that Netanyahu “has lost his way by allowing his political survival to take precedent over the best interest of Israel’. These are the same old arguments used by previous Democratic administrations to undermine the leadership of the State of Israel. Their goal is to install in the only democratic country in the Middle East a government suitable to their politics.
In response to these accusations the Israeli ruling Likud party issued a statement in support of the Netanyahu’s policies and reaffirmation of the Israeli’s citizens desire to eliminate Hamas. “Contrary to Schumer’s words, the Israeli public supports a total victory over Hamas, rejects any international dictates to establish a Palestinian terrorist state, and opposes the return of the Palestinian Authority to Gaza”. The similar response to the Senator Schumer’s call for the new election in Israel was the statement by the Republican Senate minority leader, Mitch McConnell. “Israel is not a colony of America whose leaders serve to the pleasure of the party in power in Washington. Only Israel’s citizens should have a say in who runs their government” and “Either we respect their decisions, or we disrespect their democracy”.
On November 29, 2023 Chuck Schumer made a speech regarding the rise of the antisemitism in America. It was a passionate address where the Senator voiced his concern of the support of the action of Hamas by ordinary citizens. However, the Senator should address the rising antisemitism within his own Democratic Party. Derek Hunter an opinion contributor to the newspaper ‘The Hill” in the article ‘Cheering terrorism: Democrats must deal with their far-left antisemitism problem ‘wrote: “There was no unequivocal condemnation from Democratic leaders of the parade of progressives in Times Square openly celebrating the rape and slaughter of innocent people because they happen to be Jewish. The Democratic Socialists of America (DSA)and its various state and local chapters cheered exuberantly and proclaimed the terrorists to be the victims. How many Democratic members of the House are in good standing with the DSA? Reps. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.), Rashida Tlaid (D-Mich), and Ihan Omar (D-Minn) come to mind. Rep. Jamaal Bowman (D-N.Y.) certainly is. You might have a hard time finding any ‘progressive’ Democrat who isn’t”.
The Congressional Progressive Caucus (CPC) is a part of Democratic Parity of U.S. and it has close to a hundred members. CPC is chaired by Congresswoman Pramila Jayapal, the deputy Chair is Congresswoman Ilhan Omar. When there was voting on the Resolution H.Res 771 ‘Standing with Israel as it defends itself against the barbaric war launched by Hamas and other terrorists’ Pramila Jayapal voted present. “I cannot in good conscience vote for a resolution that ignores these critical factors and humanitarian impact on Palestinian civilians and their families as this war has unfolded and escalated. I am voting present”. The chair of the Congressional Progressive Caucus expressed opinion of many members of the progressive group.
It would be more appropriate for the Senator Schumer to use his power and influence as one of the leaders of Democratic Party of U.S. to reduce the rise of the antisemitism within his party’s ranks and not interfere in the internal affairs of the sovereign State of Israel.
