Silence: A Poem

[Since the latest terrorist attacks on Israel on October 7, I have been writing many poems. I am compelled to share this poem with you, a broad audience].

Silence

By Janice Leslie Hochstat Greenberg

@2023

Silence

The silence

Is louder

Than

The voices

Rising

Up

Against

Israel

And

Jews

The silence

Isolates

Me,

It makes me feel

Vulnerable

The silence

Wraps itself

Tightly

Around

My soul

Suffocating me.

I want to cry out

Beseeching

All of you

Who are

The silent ones

To raise your voices

In defense of

Your

Jewish friends or neighbors

Or colleagues

Or teachers or students

Or librarians

Or fill in the blanks

Louder, please

I cannot hear you.
