“Socialism in general has a record of failure so blatant that only an intellectual could ignore or evade it.” [Thomas Sowell]
“Socialism is a wonderful idea. It is only as a reality that it has been disastrous. Among people of every race, color and creed, all around the world, socialism has led to hunger in countries that used to have surplus food to export—Nevertheless, for many of those who deal primarily in ideas, socialism remains an attractive idea—-in fact, seductive. Its every failure is explained away as due to inadequacies of particular leaders”. [Thomas Sowell]
“There are two places only where socialism will work; in heaven, where it is not needed, and in hell where they already have it.” [Winston Churchill]
One has to wonder whether American Leftist Jews comprehend what they are being offered by Biden and his cohorts. To that end, what follows hereunder “A message from socialism’s survivors to local liberal Jews” should be helpful.
Author Dick Morris: “The Legacy of Barack Obama [The Worst President in History]” has become increasingly obvious since he left office. Terror attacks, Obamacare’s failure, and eight years of economic pain are just now getting reversed. Margolis and Noonan effectively catalog the cost of feckless and corrupt governance. Despite all the failures and abuses documented in this book, Obama remains popular – people believe his two terms were scandal-free and think he meant well, even if they disagreed with his ideas.
A sampling follows:
The Narcissist-in-Chief: Neil Armstrong, the first man to step on the moon, died in 2012, and President Obama “Honored” him by posting a picture of himself looking at the moon. When it came time to honor the great civil rights pioneer Rosa Parks, Obama posted a picture of himself sitting in the bus in which Parks bravely refused to give up her seat. Following Nelson Mandela’s death, Obama tweeted a picture of himself hugging his daughter in Mandela’s prison cell.
Blaming Bush and Congress: Too often, Obama blamed Bush for the consequences of his actions. He blamed the GOP for his own lack of accomplishments on domestic issues. He blamed the Republicans for his failure to pass immigration reform.
An Overtly Partisan Inaugural Speech: As Senator John McCain noted, this was the first inauguration speech where a call for both parties to work together was absent.
Worsening the Partisan Divide in Congress: Politifact reported in 2012, rather than bringing Congress together in a bipartisan fashion, he ignored the opposition and left Congress more divided than ever.
Releasing Criminal Illegal Aliens: Only in the Obama Administration could releasing tens of thousands of convicted criminals back into the US population, just because they are illegal aliens, be considered “”the right thing to do” for our security.
One of the major problems with the current Democrat Party, thanks to Obama, is the tolerance of radical violence. It is primarily directed to discredit President Trump. Astute citizens are aware of this ploy. Consider the following letter which appeared in the Missoulian of September 6, 2020 entitled, “Liberal mobs are destroying nation”
Donald Trump will destroy America!
Ironically, the same people who have been brandishing this lie are the same people who are actually destroying America. The liberal mob of anarchists and democratic socialists are rioting and burning and destroying our great American cities. Angela Davis, former secretary of the communist party USA, calls these riots prologues to the Communist Revolution to come to America once Democrats take control of the White House.
These same left-wing radicals are also calling for free everything and defunding the police, and are saying to trust the Democrats, so when they get into power, they can do to America what they are doing in Democratic cities nationwide. Burning, rioting, robbing, murder and total anarchy for America; we will be transformed into Venezuela. You will have no guns or free speech as they will wreck the economy, and inflation will soar and communism will overtake capitalism and God will be banished, as you already see the Bibles burned in Portland and Seattle, and the statues being torn down and history erased.
If you think the clenched fist and hammer sickle are not symbols of peace and prosperity, ask yourself the question: Did I buy the right firearms?
Barry Hartman, Missoula
Yet another letter which appeared in the Indiana Gazette of July 17,2020 under the title, “Leftists anarchists seek to destroy” is further confirmation of the issue.
I disagree with specific types of justice, which define the wants of a minority at the expense of the majority. I favor liberty and justice for all, including the liberty to state one’s opinion without losing one’s livelihood or property in the social totalitarianism sweeping our nation.
It is government’s responsibility to ensure the domestic tranquility, but the Democrat politicos didn’t get the message. Based on orders from their bosses, the police have been too kind to rioters, looters and statue wreckers.
Liberals need to be certain they are not pawns of the Leftist anarchists who want to destroy our nation. If the Leftists are successful their liberal pawns will be expendable.
I was raised to judge people by their actions, not the color of their skin. I wonder about those who, after receiving coveted jobs at IUP or IASD, complain of racism in Indiana County. Their own situation indicates otherwise. Dennis Prager, a Jew, says America is the best place in the world for a Jew to live, second only to Israel. He said over 2 million sub-Saharan Black Africans have come to America since 1970 because this is the least racist nation on Earth.
“Reform”, in any application, has become code for the elimination of the foundational standards, which made America the greatest nation in history.
For me White privilege was busting my butt as a teenager stacking heavy hay bales, cleaning out chicken coops with a coop shovel and forking winter’s manure out of cow sheds in the spring.
No programs to ensure my success at IUP. Maybe I was privileged to have parents who told me I would have to work to get ahead.
Guiltless apologists seem to be what’s endemic in Indiana County. I have no problem with the NAACP, but BLM espouses too much violence. Any shortfalls in minority progress since the Republicans passed the Civil Rights Act of 1964 are not due to any lack of billions of taxpayer dollars. If I were the parent of a young Black person, I would ensure their familiarity with the many Black conservatives worthy of emulation: Dr.Carol Swain, Lt. Col. Allen West, Senator Scott and many more, plus Bob Woodson’s 1776 Project.
Trump/Pence are compiling a great record on behalf of minorities, but that’s not the only reason to vote for them this fall!

Let us consider “Three Nations that Tried Socialism and Rejected it” by Lee Edwards PhD of The Heritage Foundation [October 16, 2019]. Israel, India and the United Kingdom all adopted socialism and an economic following WW 11. The preamble to India’s constitution, begins, ‘We the People of India, having solemnly resolved to constitute India into a Sovereign Socialist Democratic Republic—-“The original settlers of Israel were East European Jews of the Left who sought and built a socialist society. As soon as the guns of WW11 fell silent, Britain’s Labor Party nationalized every major industry and acceded to every socialist demand of the unions.
Israel is unique, the only nation where socialism was successful – for a while. The urinal settlers, according to Israeli professor Avi Kay, “sought to create an economy in which market forces were controlled for the benefit of the whole society.
Most early settlers either worked on collective farms called kibbutzim or in state-guaranteed jobs. Simply, the arrangement was one of an exchange of chores for food and money to live on. No private property, people ate in common and children under 18 lived together. Following the socialist dogma, control of the means of production is invested in the state. This translates to nearly every economic and social sector including kibbutzim, housing, transportation, banks, social welfare, health care and education. Life, as such, prevailed from 1948 until 1973 and the Yom Kippur War.
Real GDP growth from 1955 to 1975, was an outstanding 12.6%, placing Israel among the fastest-growing economies worldwide, with amongst the lowest income differentials. However,, it was accompanied by rising levels of private consumption and over time, increasing income inequality. The Israeli “economic miracle” evaporated in 1965 when the country suffered its first major recession. Economic growth halted and unemployment rose threefold from 1965 to 1967.
For the first time, there was a public debate between supporters of free-enterprise economics and supporters of traditional socialist arrangements. The 1973 war and its economic impacts reinforced the feelings of many Israelis that the Labor party’s socialist model could not handle the country’s growing economic challenges.
The 1977 elections resulted in the victory of the Likud party, with its staunch pro-free-market philosophy. An exasperated Secretary Schulz informed Israel that if it did not begin freeing up the economy, the U.S. would freeze “all monetary transfers” to the country.
In the 2,000’s, unemployment, high military expenditures and taxes absorbed up to 40% of the GDP, resulting in political parties agreeing that there was no turning back to the economic policies of the early years—the debate was about the rate of further market reform. Thus, “The world’s most successful experiment in socialism,” Light wrote, “appears to have resolutely embraced capitalism.”
Widely described as “the sick man of Europe” after three decades of socialism, the United Kingdom underwent an economic revolution in the 1970s and 1980s because of one remarkable person—Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher. Some skeptics doubted that she could pull it off—the U.K. was then a mere shadow of its once prosperous free-market self.
Acceptance of socialism was strong in India long before independence, spurred by widespread resentment against British colonialism and the land-owning princely class (the zamindars) and by the efforts of the Communist Party of India, established in 1921. Jawaharlal Nehru adopted socialism as the ruling ideology when he became India’s first prime minister after independence in 1947.
Because the political leaders of India sought and adopted a better economic system—free enterprise—after some four decades of fitful progress and unequal prosperity under socialism.
In 2017, India overtook Germany to become the fourth-largest auto market in the world, and it is expected to displace Japan in 2020. That same year, India overtook the U.S. in smart phone sales to become the second-largest smart phone market in the world. Usually described as an agricultural country, India is today 31 percent urbanized. With an annual GDP of $8.7 trillion, India ranks fifth in the world, behind the United States, China, Japan, and Great Britain. Never before in recorded history, Indian economist Gurcharan Das has noted, have so many people risen so quickly.
In his “United States of Socialism”, Dinesh D’Souza, asks a very fundamental question; “For those who witnessed the global collapse of socialism, its resurrection in the 21st century, comes as a surprise, or even a shock. How can socialism work now when it has never worked before.” He offers a well-founded argument that the socialism advanced today by the likes of Alexandria Ocasio Cortez, Bernie Sanders, Ilhan Omar and Elizabeth Warren is very different from the socialism of Lenin, Mao and Castro. Modern day socialism is “identity socialism”, a marriage between classic socialism and identity politics.
He says further, they claim to model themselves on “the socialism that works” in Scandinavian countries like Norway and Sweden. “In reality, socialism abandoned the working class and found new recruits by drawing on the resentments of race, gender and sexual orientation.”
Why socialism always failed by Mark. J. Perry.
Socialism always fails by William L. Anderson.
Socialism: The failed idea that never dies by Dr. Kristian Niemietz.
At the end of the day, it does seem that Winston Churchill will have the last words:
“Many forms of Government have been tried, and will be tried in this world of sin and woe. No one pretends that democracy is perfect or all-wise. Indeed it has been said that democracy is the worst form of Government except for all those other forms that have been tried from time to time.…”
Winston S Churchill, 11 November 1947
