Songs from the Diaspora — Poems and Essays from the Far Reaches of Northern Cailfornia

The Long Walk Home

We count our way

from of that narrow place

and the wordless pangs

of our natality

shared forth in a

seas gush

bearing us

to ourselves

the horses and their riders

ebb slowly

wet and stuttering

on my heels

while I gulp

new words

in the bright

sun.
