Standing with Our Defenders: A Testament to Israeli Solidarity

As Vice Chairman of El Al’s Board of Directors, I am deeply moved by our recent initiative to honor the extraordinary service of our IDF reservists. What began as a program to recognize those who have sacrificed so much has become a testament to our national unity and gratitude. The plan offered 100 Matmid Frequent Flyer points for each day of service to reservists who have served 100 days or more since October 7, 2023.

The response was nothing short of remarkable. We distributed 1.8 billion air miles to 81,000 reservists, covering an astounding 18 million days of service. As the carrier that helped so many Israelis to return to Israel right after the war broke out, El Al understands the commitment that thousands of Israelis have made to the country over the last 15 months; certainly, this commitment included missed and cancelled trips, time away from family and friends, and so much more.

These points are more than just a reward – they are a symbol of our nation’s appreciation, allowing our brave defenders to create precious moments with their loved ones. The stories behind these numbers are what truly touch my heart. These are points that represent missed birthdays, postponed weddings, and interrupted lives – now transformed into opportunities for rest, reconnection, and healing. From Paris to Bangkok, from London to Tokyo, our reservists will now have the chance to travel, to breathe, and to reconnect with their families and friends. As someone privileged to serve on El Al’s board, I am immensely proud of how our company has stepped forward to support those who have given so much.

This initiative was a heartfelt expression of our collective gratitude, a bridge between sacrifice and renewal. To the 81,000 reservists who have dedicated themselves to protecting our nation, we say thank you. Your service is not just remembered – it is celebrated.
