Judith Sinclair-Cohen

The Beginning* (Now We’re in 2026!)

On day one, it had just begun:

“Let there be light!” – and the dark had to run.

On day two, the sky was new,

With waters above and below, split in two.

On day three, He created the sea,

Then dry land, and grass, and the very first tree.

On day four, sun, moon and more:

A sky full of stars that weren’t there before.

On day five, the seas came alive,

And birds filled the air with a swoop and a dive.

On day six, the beasts joined the mix,

With their growls and their purrs and their gallops and kicks.

Last of all He made us, and ’cos we think we’re so clever –

He gave us Shabbat, to keep for ever and ever.

*In admiration of, and with apologies to, A. A. Milne, author of ‘The End’ in Now We Are Six.
