The UN Delegates Have No Clothes!

Back in the day, the most efficient way to get Elvis fans to vacate the premises was to announce, “Elvis has left the building.” A surefire way, though not recommended, to empty a movie theater of moviegoers has always been to yell “Fire!” And the quickest way to empty the UN of delegates is to announce, “The Prime Minister of Israel is about to speak!”

Among the nations leading the delegate walkout and animus in general, of course, are the oil-rich, Muslim-majority nations. But the problem is not just limited to them.

Now there are those who might believe the recent walkout (and stay away) was all about who the present Prime Minister of Israel is. Truth is, when it comes to Israel, the United Nations is a Tower of Hypocrisy. That is its modus operandi, and that die was cast long before October 7.

To my way of thinking a legitimate walkout is supposed to be a spontaneous form of nonviolent protest, a demonstration of disapproval regarding what a speaker is saying. But the walkout on the Prime Minister of Israel last week at the UN was anything but spontaneous. It was obviously preplanned. It was a mass exodus that began just before he spoke. In doing so, the delegates sent their own message:

We don’t care what the Prime Minister of Israel has to say because Israel doesn’t deserve to be in our exclusive country club.

When I think about the staged walkout I’m reminded of a very funny scene in Scary Movie 4 when Leslie Nielsen played a bumbling U.S. President addressing the UN delegation. He accidentally fires a Martian weapon, first on himself and then on his impeccably dressed audience. The weapon had been modified by U.S. scientists. Instead of disintegrating people, only leaving their clothes behind, the weapon does the opposite. It disintegrates clothes and leaves people behind – only stark naked. Suddenly, naked UN delegates are running every which way, in an act of pure spontaneity, searching for an exit to hide their embarrassment. Now that makes sense!

But back to the UN delegates who staged a walkout on the Prime Minister of Israel (and the only Jewish-majority nation in the world). To me, the question remains as to whether the UN delegates really were clothed when they exited? The truth is, the naked truth that is, regardless of the attire they may have been wearing at the time, those UN delegates have no clothes!
