The Washington Revolving Door Policy

Throughout the day I check the Israeli news services to find out the status of the war or peace with Iran. We alternate between war and peace during a 24- hour news cycle. No wonder Tolstoy’s book was so long.

If other professions, companies or sports and entertainment organizations used this method, not much would get done. Constant warning from embassies and travel bans create chaos.  Airlines continue to cancel flights to Israel going further out in the calendar which reduces choice and increases fares.

Here is a look at just some of the headlines from Israeli newspapers within the last month:

• July 4^th Iran says it will ‘definitely’ charge Hormuz fees, friendly nations to get special treatment
• July 11, 2026: Collapse of the Accord & Massive U.S. Airstrikes
• July 20, 2026: The Naval Blockade & Proxies Retaliate
• Late July saw intense regional proxy warfare, with U.S. Central Command implementing a strict naval blockade while Iran targeted neighboring states like Jordan and Kuwait:
• August 2, 2026  “Trump says planned Iran strikes canceled after ‘perimeters’ of new deal agreed”
• August 3, 2026: The Canceled Attack & Negotiating War of Words
• “Trump: ‘Unbelievably duplicitous’ Iran begged for talks, now denies they’re happening”
• Israelis cancel vacations, seek shelters as Trump’s Iran zigzag fuels domestic fear

In reading these headlines, the only consistent pattern that comes to mind is a revolving door.

I do not recall negotiations to end any armed conflict taking place in the press. If you are old enough to remember the Cuban missile crisis or the ability to read about it, President Kennedy did not weigh his options in the press, which were not revealed to the public until years later. The problem was eventually revealed in a televised speech to the nation after he came to a decision, but the strategies were discussed only among military and strategic advisors and to the best of my knowledge not with any real estate experts.

The daily changes in options to end the war in Iran affect the world economy by the price of energy and related goods, the safety of the citizens in the affected countries, and the general wellbeing of affected residents with constant warnings of imminent attacks, travel restrictions, and disruption of everyday life events.

Frequent changes in progress and strategy of any problem that affects masses of people have little chance of success whether it’s between countries, companies, or any organization that require cooperation and trust within parties. You normally do not see a football team changing its playbook from week to week.

I wish I had a solution to end the war and ensure individual peace and freedom for all of the affected citizenry. If there is one positive note to this revolving door approach, it is the opportunity to expand my vocabulary. I don’t often get to use the word duplicitous.
