Together we protect: We Are All Magen David Adom
In Miami, one thousand gathered to show their solidarity with American Friends of Magen David Adom (MDA) at a remarkable gala dedicated to supporting Israel’s premier emergency medical service. This event exemplified the power of community and compassion, successfully raising over $4.5 million to enhance emergency medical services in Israel.
Ambassador Gilad Erdan, the Global President of Magen David Adom, emphasized the vital role of MDA as Israel’s backbone of resilience. “As we strengthen and support Magen David Adom, we will become more resilient and remain forever in the Holy Land.”
Renowned Israeli actress Moran Atias hosted the event and spoke candidly about the struggles faced by Israeli women who were kidnapped on October 7th: “Israeli women are being held hostage. Their silence has shattered me, but I realize I don’t need to convince anyone that we are human. I know, and I live it, even in the darkest times. Everyone volunteered on October 7th.”
Atias stated, “It is often said that true character is revealed under difficult circumstances, and I witnessed this firsthand with Magen David Adom. The men and women of MDA transformed into heroes that night.” She concluded her speech with a powerful reminder of their mission: “Magen means ‘to protect.’ Tonight, we are here to protect them—tonight, we are all Magen David Adom.”
Actor Liev Schreiber also took the stage to share the tragic yet inspiring story of Adham Safadi, an EMT from a Druze community in Israel, along with a heart-wrenching account of MDA EMT Zvi Reder, who saved many lives on October 7th even as his son was murdered by terrorists at a nearby kibbutz.
“When I was in Ukraine building Blue Check and looking for a reliable partner on the ground, Magen David Adom was right there beside me, delivering bulletproof ambulances and world-class medical care.” Shreiber said.
The emotional depth of the evening was heightened by honored guest Patricia Heaton, an American actress who commended Israel for its courageous stand against terror and was honored with the Champion of Israel Award.
As I represent Miss Universe Israel Netanya 2024, I reflect on my upbringing in Israel, where we always turned to Magen David Adom as our most reliable source for the fastest medical response and blood bank services.
Magen David Adom symbolizes far more than just emergency medical services. It represents the strength, resilience, and compassion of American Jewish generosity, offering hope and support to individuals of all faiths.
