Treachery of Israel’s Radical Left

Once again, the anti-Netanyahu political left continues to prove how out of touch with reality they are, endangering lives, including those of the remaining captives in Gaza. Early Sunday, news broke that Hamas murdered six more hostages. Israel’s radical Left, rather than demanding harsh retaliation against Hamas, focuses on undermining the Netanyahu government. Opposition leader Yair Lapid blamed Netanyahu for the hostages’ deaths, using tragedy to fuel his campaign against the government. This reckless behavior sends a message to Hamas that killing hostages can achieve their aims by fostering disunity among Israelis.

This political maneuvering suggests to Hamas that murdering innocent captives is an effective strategy to weaken Israel. Every Israeli wants our captives freed, but we face a manipulative enemy that uses our compassion against us. Heeding the calls to destabilize the current government would only benefit Hamas. Meanwhile, Netanyahu’s government resists immense pressure from the international community, Hamas, and the political left, refusing to compromise the safety of 9.5 million Israelis.

Netanyahu has accepted every deal proposed by the Biden administration, while Hamas has rejected them all. US Secretary of State Antony Blinken confirmed, “Israel accepts the bridging hostage proposal. Hamas must also do so.” Yet, Israel’s opposition leaders continue to blame Netanyahu, which only emboldens Hamas, Iran, Qatar, and other enemies.

Suggestions that Israel capitulate to Hamas’s demands ignore the reality of international pressure. After 1,200 Israelis were killed on October 7th, the world pushed for Israel to withdraw. The idea that Israel could later defeat Hamas without facing backlash is unrealistic. The only viable solution is to destroy Hamas, follow a strategic plan to deport terror supporters, and resettle Gaza with Jewish communities.

Calls to topple the Israeli government rather than destroy Hamas aid our enemies. Instead of protesting against Hamas, the left has focused on driving Israelis into the streets and disrupting private life. The once rational political left has been hijacked by a dangerous ideology that distorts compassion and morality into a weapon against national security. This delusion, based on a warped worldview of oppressed vs. oppressor, poses a critical threat to our survival, distracting from the realities of our terror war.

For decades, this ideological blind spot has exacerbated the terror campaign against Israel. The war against Israel is not an isolated attack; it’s a coordinated campaign fueled by hostile entities. Hamas has launched thousands of rockets and instigated violence, while the Palestinian Authority uses international aid to reward terrorists for killing Jews. Behind them, Iran and Qatar finance these operations.

By prioritizing ideology over security, the left weakens Israel’s position, emboldening enemies and confusing public discourse. This false equivalence between aggressor and defender feeds the agenda of our enemies and even allies. The international community, including the US, EU, and UN, often turns a blind eye to terror while criticizing Israel, undermining our national interests.

For Israel to survive, we must adopt a realistic approach to the threats we face, supporting policies that address these dangers. Compassion cannot be weaponized against our security. This was exemplified by the 2011 Gilad Shalit deal, where over 1,100 Hamas terrorists were released in exchange for one captive, many of whom later committed attacks, including those behind the October 7th massacre.

Israelis and Jews worldwide must recognize the dangerous manipulation by the political left, which endangers Israeli lives and our national security. It is a matter of life and death. While healthy debate is part of Israel’s democracy, extreme leftist ideology must not dictate our national security strategy. Israelis must unite against real enemies and existential threats. Despite the pain and divisive tactics, the people of Israel remain unbroken and committed to fighting until every captive is returned and Hamas is destroyed.
