The COVID-19 pandemic is carried by two groups of people. One group can’t help it while the other supposedly could help themselves.
First, there are the super-spreaders. They can infect hundreds of people in a short time span. Often, they don’t know that they got the virus and certainly, they don’t know that they are extra contagious. In fact, doctors still don’t know why some are super-spreaders.
However, we’re not powerless against this. If we limit the number of people that congregate, in schools, workplaces, for entertainment, we disable super-spreading.
The second group is misbehaving consciously. They act badly deliberately and are harder to correct or disempower. They are largely unaware of the evil of their refusal to comply. These are the “Nobody tells me what I can do and can’t do.” All kinds of groups belong under this umbrella.
- Rightwing Americans. I believe in small government. The authorities are here to serve us, not to rule over us. We reject kings over us.
- Muslim, Chareidic, and non-religious Israelis, Democratic Americans in Republican States and the opposite. This government is formed by people who believe in norms different from mine. Whenever I have a chance, I’ll disobey. They’re the enemy. I have my own brain.
- The government is the instrument of the rich to keep us oppressed. Whenever I have a chance, I’ll disobey. They’re the tyranny.
- Fundamentalist Christians. My faith tells me to only obey G-d. (Never mind that G-d tells you to listen to the physicians.) If G-d wants me to fall sick, no one can prevent that. If He wants me to heal or die, it’s up to Him, not me. (It is also up to Him if the doctor is going to succeed or not but you first need to go to him.)
Meanwhile, most deaths are in two types of countries. Those with people who take all the liberties they can (see above). And countries whose authorities don’t care for/about the population. “People die, so what?” The latter can be oligarchies (dictatorships) and capitalist entities!
Governments also are deadly if only part of them are careless (the US President) or care doesn’t extend to part of the people (the homeless).
In psychiatry, they used to teach: insight is half the cure. So, I decided to write down and publish this in the hope to contribute to needed changes to stop the pandemic and cut down unnecessary suffering and dying.
